Won't say I told you so but ...
Ricky Williams has a broken arm today and is out indefinitely from the Toronto Argonauts lineup after suffering the injury over the weekend.
This was exactly what the Dolphins feared when they reluctantly allowed Williams to pursue a CFL contract while he served his NFL-mandated suspension.
Despite being against this idea from the start, I see there is a silver lining in this situation. It's an arm, for gosh sakes -- not a knee or an ankle, which are a lot more important to running backs.
It is possible that Williams will not play another down for the Argos this season. And that's great for Miami because that means he won't risk another more serious injury. Meanwhile this injury is rarely the kind of thing that derails a RB longterm.
That means Williams should come back to the Dolphins healed in 2007. Almost as important, Williams will continue collecting a paycheck from the Argos, which is the reason he's in the CFL to begin with. And he'll be in a semi-controlled football environment while he rehabilitates the break -- again, a plus for Miami because he's not being chased by some weird malaria bug or something in an Australian outback tent.
So while the injury is unfortunate and we all wish Williams a speedy recovery, I believe the Dolphins would rather he not recover TOO fast.
Only fast enough to have Williams avoid further contact in the CFL and be ready for the 2007 NFL season.

probably the best thing that could have happened for ricky and dolfans. better to be doing rehab and strength training in the gym with coaches than messing up his timing with a wider field, less downs, and slower competition.
The only person who has incurred a loss because of this injury is Williams himself. He wasn't an especially dominant force for the Argonauts, so they'll be able to get by without him. Williams' arm should be back to normal by the time he returns to the Dolphins late next summer, and the Dolphins may very well just trade him away once he does return. [note: I'm not sure how the $8 million he owes the team plays into his return] One of thes main reason why he joined the Argonauts was to continue playing football and keep himself in shape for his return to the NFL in 2007. If he can't return to the Argonauts for the rest of this season, he'll be that much more stale when he rejoins the Dolphins next year.
Whaaa!
I didn't realize that the NFL primadonnas were so fragile. I didn't realize that this sort of injury never happened in the NFL.
RW was never the league-breaker that Toronto had wanted him to be. All this proves is that a superstar in one league (Williams or Doug Flutie) is not necessarily one in the other. When you have three downs instead of four, you change the nature of the game, and they way that you look at the different tools and weapons that you can choose.
Armondo,
I was not aware you were a Doctor who could comment on how long Ricky will be out. According to the Specialists who looked at and worked on Ricky in Toronto at the Top Orthopedic Hospital in Canada say 4 - 6 weeks.
It's the Radial bone in his arm. He'll be back playing in the CFL this year and ready for the NFL next year.
Just call Armando Dr. Love. Meanwhile, keep up the great work big man!
Why would you say 'I told you so'?
A broken arm like this won't affect him long-term, so this injury will not mean ANYTHING to the Dolphins in anyway. Allowing him to play in the CFL is not any more regrettable that he was before the injury.
I told you so?? WTF is that it is his arm, not his knee, not an ankle it heals quick you are over reacting. PEOPLE WAKE UP!
Just thought you might like to read the article in todays Venice Gondolier all about Ricky in the CFL. Maybe you can learn something about the CFL.
Cfl games can be viewed by going to cfl.ca and watching them on the net. Little cost and lots of excitement. Ricky will be back in a couple of weeks. Why not go see him yourself.
