You booed and I applaud you for that

I heard you in the press box and I'm hearing what you're saying in your emails. Tomorrow I'll listen to what you have to say on my radio show starting at 6 on 1360-AM and online at 1360WKAT.com

What you're saying is you are not too happy right now.

You booed at Dolphin Stadium. You threw things at your TV sets. You typed angry as you wrote your emails and posted on this blog.

I do not blame you one bit.

The Dolphins laid a tremendous egg. Is there anyone out there that believes the Buffalo Bills are more talented than Miami?

Anyone?

Please give me your name and number and I'll have my realtor calling you very soon offering that gorgeous Everglades plot.

The Bills are less talented and had three fewer days to prepare for this game than Miami, and yet, they looked fresher, better prepared and just more into this game.

Afterward, the team with five rookies on defense was whooping it up in the locker room while the team with the veteran offense was talking about being out of synch, out of sorts, and simply out of it.

That is frustrating.

I stood next to Zach Thomas when he talked about the defense not playing with energy, when he said he had nothing when he stepped on the field. I asked him, how does that happen in a home opener when you lost the first game and need to win?

He did not have an answer.

The Buffalo game plan was to win without asking JP Losman to do anything special. So the Dolphins should have piled nine men in the tackle box, preventing Buffalo from running and forcing, no, daring Losman to throw.

That did not happen. The Bills dictated the pace and the tone of the game even though the Dolphins were at home. The Bills seemed to have a plan and Miami seemed to be rudderless even though one team is building for the future and Miami has (had?) playoffs expectations this year.

I can understand that you booed. You showed the Dolphins that this kind of effort is not OK. I hope they listened.

It seems that Daunte and Mularky are not on the same page. I feel that Mularky is too conservative in his approach. There are 11 minutes left in the 4th. I hope we can turn it around.

i am sick and tired of getting all hyped up and believing that this could be the year of the dolphins, and pow! another punch in the gut from the team i have loved and followed since 1972. what's it going to take for this team to dominate someone? i have rarly watched a game on sunday afternoon, that has given me more heartburn than the game today against the bills. if our beloved dolphins can't do any better that this,i am affraid the season is over before it has begun.chow,i gotta go get some tums!

Today's game was all about field position and the Bills special Teams really stuck it to us.
Ronnie looked good.
Chambers dropped balls when we needed a reception. Did have that nice TD reception though. Still inconsistant.
The O-line was pathetic again. 7 sacks? 5 in the first 15 plays or so. Absolutely terrible. They are killing this team.
Secondary looked better, but there were some blown coverages.
Daunte made some bad decisions when he did get some time which was very rare.

wow, that was really ugly!!...totally outplayed in every area of the game...our defense continues to be just good enough to not make any plays...the interference penalty was absolutely crushing...

Mare misses his kick, punt gets blocked...

And then the offense...I don't know what anyone can say...I've been so excited about Culpepper but his INT at the end of the 1st half was Feeley'esque and absolutely took the air out of our effort...

And speaking of effort...this team was NOT on an emotional peak, wasn't inspired and by the time it got to be 10-0, the game was clearly over based on the body language of the players...that probably was the most disappointing thing, that we just showed up and thought we'd win...

I felt like the dolphins should have got brees when we had the chance. But it's no good crying over spilled milk. The O-line needs to get themselves together as well. I have the feeling we need to find a more solid QB who doesn’t get startled so easy. I don't want the next few years to be a wash because we are doing the polite by keeping daunte around as a starter who is either doing just alright or terrible. I just want the dolphins to have a good run at the Super Bowl and not to waste time.

Armando, I'll say it again, the main issue is the o-line ... what the hell is going on with them. I stated in one of your Q/A sessions that I thought the o-line looked good during pass blocking situations but the run blocking was way below par. I also thought management dropped the ball with regards to getting the right people for the O-line. You chewed me out a bit but I forgive you. The o-line is what makes and breaks teams.

I don't think Saban has the guts to do it.

The fins played with no rhythm on offense and little energy on defense.
I found the playcalling to be far too conservative, especially given the personnel.
Daute will get criticized heavily for this one - I'm sure there are plenty of fans and scribes calling for Joey- but I don't think he was terrible. By no means did he have a good game, and there are certainly several areas that need improvement, but I think it will just take some time for this offense to gel.
Going 0-2 is a significant disapointment but this team is far from out of it.

As a Buffalo fan I was concerned about Duante C. because of his size and strength. And then there was the quote from Mularkey about how when you beat the Bills, you beat the city and I was very concerned. Then there was Miami's win record on home field in September. Of course there is that amazing coach Nick Saban, and I thought Buffalo did not have a chance, but I guessed wrong. Thank you Duante.

WOW....I'm beginning to regret paying over $200 to get NFL Sunday Ticket. I wanted to see the Dolphins perform. They performed alright, they performed a comedy of errors.

I really wanted to believe Culpepper would be something special, maybe not a Marino incarnate, but at least something better than Fiedler. That remains to be seen

I just may move back to Hialeah, we played better when I lived there. Call me supersticious.

I don't buy the fact that having three more days to prepare is an advantage. I think the longer break allowed the Dolphins to lose the eagerness to get back on the field. It also gives coaches to much time to overthink the scheme and gameplan. Dolfans need to get it together. They dominated a great team in Pittsburgh for three quarters and lossed it on a fluke blown coverage. Last year the teams wake up call came against Cleveland too late in the season. Nick Saban won't allow this performance to go unpunished. He is a great coach and we do have alot of great players. It takes time for teams to get develop chemistry. Every team is going to lose games and if the Fins are going to play bad I would rather it be now than in December. The d-line will be better with Wilkinson returning. I don't know that I am ready for Joey Harrington but I do think he will perform better than he did in Detroit. Rogers was cut and Mike Williams is getting bumped down the depth chart so maybe those great receivers weren't so great afterall. Duante on the otherhand has thrown for alot of yards and alot of touchdowns. You can say it had alot to do with Moss. But who else was there. Kelly Campbell? In 2004 Culpepper threw 39 TD's and only 13 went to Moss. There is no doubt that Moss effects the defensive coverage. I think that Miami has a better core receiving group than any of those Vikings teams except for when Carter was there. Rememeber it has been a long time since the guy has played games that matter. The offense is out of synch but you have to trust that Houck and Saban will find a way to allow Culpepper the time to develop that chemistry with his receivers. I don't know why the team played the way they did, but how about some fans actually show up to the game and yell and scream on third downs and help get the team motivated. For that to happen some people should actually show up for the game. I think I would be even more ticked off if I lived in South Florida, The Stadium is never packed and the result is that the dolphins have no homefield avantage.

I place the blame on two people: Daunte and Mike Mularkey. I never liked either signing with us and yesteday's game confirmed my fears. Culpepper has never been a big game QB and wilts under the pressure. Mularkey's play-calling has been terrible so far this year. I'm not ready to ask for Saban to be fired but so far his 2006 off-season moves have been failures.

I feel for you Miami fans but believe me it is only going to get worse with this guy. The problem is he doesn't read defenses but, he could always run for a 1st down but, now he can't even run. I am afraid Joey is not much of a step up either.

Sorry guys it isn't going to happen this year.

It's amazing to me how many of you so-called fans start ripping the team when they don't meet your expectations. if you looked at this team with a critical eye instead of your hearts before the season started, you wouldn't have put them in the Superbowl or anywhere close. And, now that the team is playing pretty much just like any sane person would've expected you start getting incredulous and hollering for people to be benched and/or fired. Come on....this team was never more than a middle of the road team with a lot of question marks. Don't blame the team for your idiotic expectations....blame yourselves. and while you're at it.....try to be real fans instead of crybabies and continue to support the team. You have every right to be angry about the team's effort but no right to harrangue them for not meeting your overblown expectations.

I think the mega-expectations coming into the season is what is driving fans batshit and asking for Saban's head and calling for Joey Harrington to be the savior. On top of the fact that it has been a shitty sports weekend in SoFla.

But let me be the voice of reason at the risk of being lambasted by other commenters here. This is a team that won only 4 games 2 years ago. This is a team that is still in flux. Culpepper is nowhere near where he should be because of his mental state and game-speed reactions -- because of the knee injury. The secondary has been a work in progess since Saban arrived last year. The defense is aging.

The bottom line this this: This team is still 2 seasons away from being a true contender. And people -- THIS IS ONLY SABAN'S SECOND YEAR! Relax! Do Dolphin fans have the patience to wait another 2 seasons? Because that's how long I believe it's going to take before we become what we're setting out to be.

So, everybody chill. Remember, we're still in the process of mopping up Wandstache and Spielman's mess.

I am glad to see that there are some people that are starting to place the blame where it should lie. Dante? Sure, for making dumb throws but if you have a QB that is limited, you scale things down to his ability. And you play to his strengths, which in DCs case is throwing fast and throwing deep. So who decides what the offense is going to look like? Mularky. And if Mularky isn't getting right, who should get him on track? Saban. The D didn't play great, but they played well enough to win this game. All the O had to come up with was 17pts. Two TDs and a FG. So why, when we are running the ball effectively, and get close to scoring, do we not continue to run the ball? Until they stop it? Why don't we launch a few bombs downfield on 1st down early in the game? If they pick em off, it play like a punt, and you have time in the game left to recover. But you set the opposing D back on it's heels a bit. Why do you trade for a QB with a big arm, only to have him dink and dunk around a power running game? And what is with the O line? Does anyone really believe there is LESS talent there today than last year? Again, last year the Offensive (and I DO mean OFFENSIVE) play calling adjusted to the limits of the line. I lay most of these problems on Mularky, and ultimately on Saban for allowing Mularky to continue making the same mistakes. Anyone agree/disagree?

nothing but losing season after
losing season....Here's a great idea...lose Saban...then lose Wayne

Let the record show that I predicted this 3-13 season (yes, you read that right) immediatley upon hearing we had picked up Culpepper.

I cannot, for the life of me, understand why so many people rejoiced upon hearing this news and immediately considered the Fins a Super Bowl contender. Hello? Have any of you looked at his past success over his 8 or 9 year career? He has not won anything, even when surrounded by talented Vikings teams. He had a few years where they started out 8-2 or even 9-1 or something like that, but faded (like the Fins do, incidentally).

He is not a smart player. Barring injury (further injury) or getting benched, he'll compete with Favre for leading the league in interceptions (he'll average 2 per game).

This recent game (as did 3 of the losses last year) falls squarely on the shoulders, however, of Saban, for literally stopping the running game just as Brown was mowing them down. Don't call a pass play and the idiot QB can't throw and interception or get sacked and fumble, can he?

(well, I guess Culpepper would manage to fumble or fall down before making the handoff).

In sum, again, how could anybody looking at Culpepper's career conclude that he's the savior?

The dude also averages a fumble a game over his career, which is terrible.

The dolphins didn't have a losing season last year. Some of you need to wake up. The 90's are over and Marino and Shula aren't coming back. What they did give us was 25 years of successful mediocrity. In all their glory they never won a ring. It is only two losses the season is far from over. Bad coaches don't win nine games. This overcomplicated defense has won three of the past five superbowls.

I agree with Tyler and leftcoastphinfan...This team was not ready for the Super Bowl. The line is way too suspect and the secondary is lacking talent. Expectations were way overblown and they are a year or two away. I haven't seen any progress in the offensive line and I think Hauck's ability to teach the offensive line positions was also overblown.

Mularkey's dink and dunk offensive game plan did nothing to test the rookies that the bills had at safety. We should have tried some deep balls to Chambers early and often. or to Booker or to Hagan...Make their young secondary cover some ground. By running all of our receivers in a 15 yard box we shortened the field that the Bills had to defend. Mularkey has been known to "overthink" and I believe he did yesterday. Our game plan should have revolved around Ronnie running the ball (since they can't stop the run) and Chambers vertically (since he has torched them his whole career) He called way too many screen passes and short crossing patterns. Culpepper's strength is the deep ball and he only threw ONE! If we wanted to dink and dunk we could have kept Jay Fiedler around, he would have been perfect yesterday.

Saban needs to pressure Mularkey to "shake things up" Instead of worrying about doing the obvious, we need to play to our strengths. We have enough talent at the skill positions.

It is also obvious that Culpepper isn't 100%, mentally or physically. He isn't getting his legs into most of his throws. I honestly think if we call some deeper patterns, like the TD throw to Chambers, he will forget worrying about his knee and regain his confidence. Did anyone notice how he stepped into that throw and delivered a bullet? I didn't notice much of that when he was dropping the ball off in the flat or over the middle.

I didn't hear any complaints about Saban going into the year, so why so many people calling for his head now? Because we are 0-2? Saban needs to hold himself accountable, because with all of our problems, we lost to a much inferior team. But to suggest he should be fired is insane. He is a defensive mind, and I had no problem with the defensive game plan, although when it got obvious the Bills were going to play ball control, we could have used another body in the box. Being the leader of the whole team, he should have straightened out the offensive game plan at half time. And he needed to light a fire under the whole team, because there was clearly a lack of intensity.

Also benching Daunte is insane. And I am as irate over his role in the loss as anyone. Being in Bills country I defended him all week and as I type I am forced to wear a Bills' hat because of a lost bet. Its not my idea of a good time. I hate the Bills more than you could imagine. There are no excuses for Daunte's poor perfomance, but he needs more reps not a trip to the pine. If you sit him we will never know if he can return to an elite level.

If anyone needs to change it's Mularkey. Lets call a gameplan that highlights our QB's rocket arm and our running back's powerful legs. If we played the Bills straight and didn't try to be something that we aren't on offense, I believe we would have won.

BOO LOUDLY UNTIL THIS TEAM PLAYS WITH SOME HEART AND TO THEIR CAPABILITIES! THEY NEED TO WAKE UP!

Mediocrity is acceptable in Minnesota and Buffalo for sure, but not in MIAMI! Don't kid yourselves Vikings fans, you don't have a prayer to make the Super Bowl, so why kick us while we are down. You talk about Brad Johnson like he's Joe Montana. He's almost as old, I'll give you that. But I don't care to bash on him, your coach on the other hand is a pompous moron.

The last "anonymous" you are clearly a vikings, because if you knew anything about Miami, you would know that Saban doesn't call the plays. Although maybe he should relived Mularkey of his duties. Your 3-13 prediction is clearly out of spite for Daunte. Not based on his talent. He was never 3-13 with the Vikings. And those talented teams never had the defense to take them far, that why they always bowed out in the playoffs. Everyone in Minny loved Daunte when he went into Lambeau IN THE PLAYOFFS and led them to victory a couple seasons ago. In the playoffs you need to run and defend against big pass plays. I don't think Minny was ever built for that. The only RB in recent memory that I thought was good enough to step up in the playoffs was Robert Smith, and I don't even know if he played with Culpepper. Enjoy your two wins now, because your team will be in Florida during the postseason, not for the super bowl, but golfing.

Like against pittsburgh when we had 3rd and 2 with the lead and the ball. What does he call? Option? Are you kidding me? Fire mullarky and let Saban call the plays like Bellichek does! Little Boy? It should have said vikings' fan. My appology. The Dolphins may not be Super Bowl bound, but if you think they are going 3-13, there is no way you should ever question anyone's football knowledge. They were 9-7 last year and its hard to believe they got worse. Their schedule is tougher, but they still should win minimum 6 games. I still think they will be closer to .500.

Saban didn't put his stamp on the offense last year and I wouldn't expect him to anytime soon. He can override Mularkey, but he doesn't "CALL THE PLAYS." He trusts Mularkey as he did with Linehan, to call a good game. WHICH DIDN'T HAPPEN. As my previous post said, Saban is to blame for not stepping in, but Mularkey should have came up with a better plan. When you see Saban with a chart of plays in his hand you let me know. Just because Saban is the boss doesnt mean he CALLS THE PLAYS. Wayne H is Saban's boss, so why don't you blame him for the Dolphin's giving up on the run. I wish they ran the ball right down their throats, so atleast we agree on that.

The Bills never ran a TD back for a TD in the red zone so you really must be losing your mind.

All I'm saying is that we need to find out what Culpepper has. I never pegged us in the Super Bowl. I thought we may contend for a playoff spot. You can't blame Culpepper for Minny's failures. I'm not happy with his performance but we need to get him back to 100% and give him a chance. He is much better than the other post-Marino QBs.

If you dont like DC you are going to be miserable for the next few years so get used to it. Face it, the Shula, Griese days are over.

If I am naive for saying that Culpepper isn't a terrible QB when healthy, then I guess I'm naive. Look at his INTs per game over his career and see if they are close to 2 a game.

Another Viking fan here -- I see things haven't changed for Daunte, and it has nothing to do with his health. All the things people say in his defense are what I (and other former Culpepper defenders) used to say when he was here. Been there, saw it, done that.

Don't get me wrong. I don't have any illusions about the Vikings making the play-offs, much less the Super Bowl, this year or even next. BUT, Culpepper cooked his own goose up here before Childress dumped him -- on and off the field.

Bottom line is, his small hands still have trouble hanging on to an NFL regulation-size football and, if he hangs onto the ball at all, he hangs onto it for waaay too long. And, then there's the fact that he's always had trouble reading defenses AND making decisions at the line of scrimmage. Add a pressure-cooker atmosphere and you've got a QB that goes into panic mode and ends up fumbling the ball away or throwing interceptions. He's not a QB for adverse conditions.

Unfortunately for Miami fans, Daunte's problems have traveled with him to his new "home".

Good luck with that.

I can't wait until Tuesday to ask So here it is - how many games do you think we'll have to wait until we see Daunte fumble the ball, get sacked and throw an interception in the same play? I'm guessing the over/under on that is 3 weeks.

Sigh. I knew I was getting too excited about this mediocre group - On the bright side, season tickets will be easier to get at this rate.

I'm a huge, life-long dolphin fan, but i have to agree with "Bills Fan'' about the Dolphins being more talented. I honestly don't think that really good quarterbacks can suck as bad as Culpeper sucked this past Sunday. Sure, he's talented in the sense that he's big and strong. More talented, I guess, that the Bills QB. But the term talent doesn't alway shave to be limited to just physical size. Talent can be "Big heart and passion and smarts'' read Zach Thomas. I mean, it's possible that a team can be as bad as the Dolphins were on Sunday and still have hope. But it's also possible something is just not right, and maybe this "talent'' thing is being looked at in a limited way that doesn't account for a lot of important factors that help a team win: read, the Patriots.

Yes, I think the Dolphins sucked tremendously on Sunday. And yes, I have my doubts about Daunte. But, I do like to think that we can keep in mind that it is ONLY Week 2 and we should give him a chance to settle into the new team. The Fins have choked, with and without Daunte. He at least deserves another chance. And if he doesn't give the team what they need, then let's look to Joey.

Armando, I have to disagree.. the Bills are just as "talented" as your Fins, since talent is an unmeasurable quantity. Your team may have more experience, but talent? You really believe that DC has more talent than JP? I'm not so sure. Our defense is faster, wouldn't you agree? And special teams, lets just not go there!

My point is that we Bills fans are tired of 90% of Dolfans talking about how unjust it is when the Phish lose, and people like you and Dan LeRetard talking about your supposedly-superior "talent" just makes the problem worse.

And how much do you want for your waterfront property?

I think Nick Saban is a good coach, but I lost some respect for him this past weekend. How dare he comment on us booing and saying the players and the coaches do not like it. I will tell you what I do not like.....is spending 75.00 on a ticket, 20.00 for parking, driving 8 hours (4 hours each way) to see a bunch of people that are supposed to be NFL players looking like a high school team. It is our right as the people that basically pay all of the teams salary...buying overpriced tickets and memorablia to BOO if merited and believe me this weekend the BOOING should have been louder.
Listening to Zach in the post game show, I also lost respect for him. NO ENERGY? Then get the hell off the team. Would that make me happy? Heck no...I love Zach, but his comments SUCKED.

Buffalo fan here. I think you guys are overreacting mainly because you thought Buffalo's talent was pathetic.

Buffalo has more talent than anyone gives the team credit for. The team was underperforming for a number of years despite the talent level. Actually position for position, Buffalo has better talent than Miami. That is what you get for years of ineptitude (high draft picks).

Denney, Kelsay etc. are all high draft picks. It is only this season that the coaches clearly made every spot up for grabs. It is the competition that made all these guys want to play better.

On defense you have Kelsay (2nd round), Denney (2nd round), Schobel (the guy who has sacked Brady the most - also a second round pick), Crowell (who was so good in practice that veteran Posey was shockingly released), Fletcher (who leads the NFL in tackles every year), Whitner (8th pick overall), Ellison (who was so good in practice that Takeo was not even missed), Simpson (who looked so good the Bills opted to put veteran Troy Vincent on injured reserve despite the fact that his injury will be healed in the next few weeks. I havent even included Nate Clements in the above list. Lack of talent?

Buffalo's special teams have been ranked no. 1 for the past two years. Lack of talent?

Even on offense, JP, Lee Evans, McGahee are all first round picks. Reed, Parrish and Price are second rounders. Lack of talent still? Because of the conservative play calling, you guys didnt even get to see what the receiving core can do ...

Buffalo's problem in the past was never a lack of talent. It was rank bad coaching and an inability to use the talent productively. I should know. I have been frustrated about it through the Gregg Williams and Mularkey eras.

The biggest problem with the team is the OFFENSIVE LINE. They are only second to the Raiders in how bad they are. People can blame whom ever they please and I agree with Saben, there is enough fault to go around, but it all starts up front and I do not see that unit getting better this season. They are simply not that talented.

I think we just sucked. The defense played well I thought. Allen got called for the pass interference because he wasn't looking at the BALL!! If receivers and backs or safeties are running down field and they trip up the refs usually won't call it if they're both looking at the ball. On the other hand, why didn't ronnie brown get the ball in the second half? Why did culpepper throw the interception? Dante still made some very bad decisions even when he had some time and that's inexcusable. If Dante has one interception and looks as bad as he did last week than I say he's not ready and we should put Harrington just because he can't be any worse. Can he?

The problem with the Florida media is that they never give an oponent the respect that they deserve. When we lose it's always because WE made a mistake or THEY got a lucky call. Let's face it, the opposition sometimes forces us into mistakes, or into taking a penalty like we did on Sunday on that long pass play that ended up with a touchdown pass. Had the penalty not been taken it was a completion for a TD. Yes, the Dolphins are a good team but the Bills were better on Sunday.
