Ginn Jr., Chatman Miami's kick returners today

I will be doing a live blog -- as in during the game -- today. So check back for my updates between significant plays.

Meanwhile, I have learned Ted Ginn Jr. and Jesse Chatman will be returning kicks this afternoon against the Redskins.

So much for all the fanciful ideas of putting Ronnie Brown back there, or putting Marty Booker back there, or putting even Lorenzo Booker back there.

(Noon update) the Dolphins inactives are Lorenzo Booker, Andre Goodman, Courtney Bryan, Abraham Wright, Steve Fifita, Rodrigue Wright, Rob Ninkovich, and John Beck is the No. 3 QB.

By the way, it's kind of interesting to me that receiver Greg Camarillo, who was added to the roster on Sunday is active for this game.

CLICK ON COMMENTS TO SEE THE LIVE UPDATES. I AM UPDATING THERE.

An INT for Renaldo Hill. Not a bad way for the secondary too start off the season.

No. 24 intercepts. I am now looking up his name to find out who it was .... OK, it was some guy named Renaldo Hill.

the Dolphins secondary now has more interceptions than all of last year -- almost.

Great jump by Jason Taylor, and a sack by good ol' Zach Thomas! Wonder what happened to Jansen? Not that I would be heartbroken if he was out for the rest of the game.

Sack. Redskins lose RT Jon Jansen, likely for the season cause he's got a broken leg or ankle.

2:23 PM
Blogger Armando Salguero said...

TD to Justin Peele. think about this, the Dolphins could have done the easy thing and kicked the field goal. Instead Cam Cameron goes with the pass with 4 seconds to play and he gets the TD.

Now the Dolphins offense, after being pretty much dominated for an entire half, walks off the field with a HUGE uplift.

2:59 PM

I hate it when Ronnie Brown dances up in there and after making a big guy miss he sees a little guy coming to support and rather than plowing him for four yards, he dances away for two yards.

Finally, Daniels does something to help his team win!!! Scuffle on the Dolphins sideline but as most football fights go, nothing happening. JT getting hit with a personal foul penalty.

Of concern, you have to wonder where the pass rush is.

I had thought Miami was going to win at least 9 this year. Now I'm sure this is NOT going to happen. We lost to a fairly pathetic Washington team ... and our defense ... which RESTED its best players in the preseason got exactly what it deserved.

"HERE WE GO AGAIN" false start penalties, dropped passes and 1st round picks that don't produce. Dumb penalties in the red zone (intentional grounding)poorly managed game clock(giving the opposing team the ball back with 12 seconds left instead of running out the clock (moot point anyway)). I didn't see any other flavors on offense other than vanilla out there today.

4:37 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

This game was about what I expected. Green looked sharp, talent around him definitely didn't (way too many dropped balls killed us again).

To all the "fans" saying our Defense sucks: We got two turnovers and held the other team to 16 pts. in overtime. They're still very good, stop complaining and go root for another team.

That holding and intentional grounding KILLED our momentum, we could have had the game right there. Like usual, drops and untimely penalties hurt us, but I do so plenty of upside.

4:38 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I saw some encouraging signs today. Green looked sharp, defense looked good until it got tired. Too many dropped passes and lack of a running game doomed us.

4:40 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well if any statement was made by the dolphins today it's. We are officially among the worst in the AFC. Where is the defense, get rid of Travis "Saban groupie" Daniels. I don't get it why cant we run the ball is our offensive line not professionals like all the other teams. Why was the redskins Oline pushing us around. Is the league except for the Dolphins using steroids. Someone explain this to me.

4:43 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey "rob" your an idiot that can't see reality. The defense gave up 300+ yards whats so good about that. If you didn't notice redskins players dropped some key passes also that helped us get off the field. So yes the D sucks (well they sucked today)

4:48 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

You guys suck, call yourself fans your fuckin pathetic, all you do is whine and moan, did you really expect a good season, O line a work in progress at best, Ronnie seems to do well enough when he catches the ball imagine what he can do when he has a hole to run through for a change, half his runs should have been stopped for no gain but he made simething out of them. Trent Green played a good game, at least 5 dropped passes didnt help. I'd like to see Ginn get more time as a reciever but I'm sure we will. JP was quiet but just comin off an injury. I agree should have won this won but guess what, we didn't, so stop whining and lets see what happens when this new team has actually played together some.

4:49 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah they'll have plenty of time to play together and loose together too.

4:52 PM
Blogger Finskillme said...

This is like an exact replica of last year's team. Even the quarterbacking. Where was the creative playcalling? I didn't see it. Here's what I saw:

Dropped passes.

The only caught passes were dink and dunk. Four yard receptions whoo -- hooo!

No offensive line; runs of two yards.

One completely stupid throw (on which we got lucky, which is about one less than average per game last year.

The defense caving when it really mattered (happened several times last year, in case anyone remembers).

Why did they not go out and get offensive lineman in the off season? Ginn? What a non-entity he was.

It's so damn frustrating. I can handle losing, but I wish were losing in a way that wasn't so damn painful and boring to watch.

4:53 PM

So what, worse that can happen they get a high draft pick, snag a stud OL and stand by for John Beck next year cos this guy is the real deal

4:54 PM

Hey "finskillme" very well put I agree up until "I can handle lossing" I hate loosing especially to a team that could have and should have been beaten by an average NFL team which I guess we are not.

I just returned from the game at FEDEX Field. Observations; (1) Green looked lost at times and seemed to always be moving out of the pocket to find a passing lane. He throws a lot of balls across his body. (2) I saw no difference in today's offense versus last years (I saw Miami in person in Miami last year). (3) They went right to the pass and never made any serious attempt to establish the run. (4) The offensive line does have some hope. (5) The Defense looked good the first have, but ran out of steam in the second half (age?). (6) The receivers still suck (all of them) as they still can't catch a ball that hits them in the numbers and they give up on their routes. (7) In for another long season.

5:03 PM

Offense is ugly right now, but definitely on the right track. I feel better but I don't have huge expectations just yet. Our O-line just aint there yet. Our Defense gave our Offense so many chances...so don't even go there blaming the D.

I can spell BUST, can u, clearly not "busr", good way to make a point pal.

5:07 PM
Blogger Finskillme said...

No, although I hated to see defense fade in the fifth quarter when they were clearly tired, I don't really blame the defense. Travis Daniels may have messed up here or there, but he made a fine interception.

Anytime you limit a team to sixteen points in five quarters you ought to win. The Colts will always win a game where their defense holds the other team to sixteen points. If you don't, it means your offense is a problem.

5:17 PM

The big issue I see here with the 'Fins is their O-line play. They completely failed to open up any running lanes for Ronnie and Co. This was a constant problem throughout the entire pre-season. People are complaining about Ronnie dancing out there, but much of that can be attributed to poor blocking along the line. Our line also didn't give Green enough time to throw the ball. I will give them credit: at least they kept Green upright most of the time; he was sacked only once or twice. Our receivers have to work on NOT DROPPING THE BALL!, especially in short yardage situations. Green played decently, but our receivers missed several balls that were between the numbers.

Defense played well for most of the game, but they seemed to run out of gas at the end. At least our secondary made 2 key interceptions that kept us in the game most of the way. That is very promising. The D-Line though didn't fare well against the run. Hopefully they'll adjust as they go along.

Overall, yes, it was a loss, but it isn't as bad as it may seem. At least the defense prevented the game from getting out of our hands, which is something that could have happened easily, especially considering that the Redskins produced almost 50% more yardage than our offense did. Much of the problem is that our offense is still having a hard time scoring in the end-zone. In a way, it is just a continuation of last year’s problems. Our defense couldn't finish the job today, but that is hard to do when your offense can't SCORE!

This loss doesn't mean that the Dolphins will be going 5-11, although it isn't a positive sign that they will be going to the playoffs. Consider that out of all teams in recent years that have gone on to the playoffs, 67% won their season-opener. What does that stat tell us? Nothing much, except that playoff teams start out of the gate fast. If we drop the next three games, forget about it. Especially when you consider that we will be play 4 tough cold weather games against the Eagles, Steelers, the Bills, and the Patriots. Not to mention that we will be playing the Ravens and the Bengals at home too. The Dolphins task is going to be tough this season, no question about it.

You don't "lose a game on defense" when you only give up 16 points.

We lost because, as usual, the offense was putrid.

We don't block for our running backs, and we don't catch the football.

When EVERY pro analyst in sports picks Miami to be in last place, got to figure at least one is correct.

cameron needs to review the tape honestly and correct not only the players who need it but coaching on the final minutes in a half or end of game and then maybe we can improve from a loss that shows positive signs.......also, ronnie brown didn't play bad, he really didn't play as he was switched in and out and so, more consistency will give him a rhythm......

Ginn needs to be given some throws not end arounds that rarely ever work. Brown needs 25 - 30 carries a games. Cameron is supposed to know football, today he looked like he was asleep at the wheel.

Calvin Jacons played and contributed. M Lynch looked good. A Peterson looked great. Why is it a crime to wonder why Cameron cant find a way to use a 9th pick of the first round in his offense? I dont think that is an unfair question. Didnt he rip Saban for taking Brown with #2? Fairs fair, where is the heat on Cam Cameron regarding Ginn Jr.?

Just to make my point clear, I am not calling Gin a bust, nor am I calling Brown one...yet, but if Cameron is going to be critical of the former moron who coached this team, he ought to look in the mirror and ask himself those same questions...Ginn didnt make himself the 9th pick, Cam did, now the question is why? Minn knows why it picked Adrian Peterson high, Buffalo knows why it took Lynch, Detroit knows why it took CJ, Cameron appears to think he got Beck and Ginn in the 6th round or something. Usually a top 10 pick is supposed to be instant impact. If they are not, then dont pick them in the top 10, trade downm or take a guy who will be. Either Ginn is a #9 pick worthy of starting or he was a reach in which case Cameron blew the pick just like he suggested Saban did with Brown.

You know what i'm pissed about, the fact that we let go of two of our best recievers last off-season, randy mcmicheal and wes welker . Whenever they were thrown the ball you knew they would catch it!!!!!Welker was a first down machine. good job cameron, wheres you're first round pick now.
