Ireland on way to Dallas to pick up Sparano

Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland is on his way to Dallas to pick up Cowboys assistant and future Dolphins coach Tony Sparano.

Ireland a few minutes ago boarded one of Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga's private jets -- one of the smaller ones, not the 737 -- with his wife. Educated guess here: Ireland's wife is going back to Dallas to tie up some family loose ends and will stay.

Back to facts: Ireland is expected to return with Sparano this evening. It takes approximately three hours to fly to Dallas and a little less than three to get back. That would put the return touchdown around 6-7ish when you add in time to taxi the aircraft, pick up Sparano etc...

If I know the Dolphins, the team will likely wine and dine Sparano this evening, maybe even have him meet Huizenga over dinner. Then everyone can get about the business of finalizing this hiring Wednesday morning -- assuming EVERYTHING goes smoothly.

I know that Sparano's agent -- yes, it is Jimmy Sexton -- is already prepared with a preliminary contract he would expect for his client. That contract includes something of a raise from the contracts first-year head coaches such as Mike Tomlin, Lane Kiffin, Gary Kubiak, and yes, Cam Cameron signed last year.

These negotiations are rarely a problem when they don't involve Raiders owner Al Davis, and this one doesn't.

So unless something goes unexpectedly off course, the Dolphins are navigating toward having a new coach in place by sometime Wednesday. And the latest step in the process just happened when that jet carrying Ireland took off.

I don't always agree with your opinions Armando. No big deal, we are different people. But when you put your mind to breaking news, you are the best without equal in South Florida.

There's always an anonymous hater that doesn't get it. Yes, Mando is a reporter and he's supposed to report. But he almost always gets the stuff first. Fact is, we're pissed with him when he doesn't.

Guess what, the dolphins are a football team and they're supposed to win football games. But that didn't mean they did.

Get it hater?

Awesome. It's obvious Sparano will be Miami's coach before the end of the week, which I guess I read on this blog a couple of days ago also.

One thing that makes me wonder is how people come on this site to read Armando, gain information from it, and then say he's not doing an outstanding job. The fact you come here points out that you respect the guy's abilities.

Anyway, thanks for the fine reporting Mando. And yeah, the thought of you trying to sneak on Wayne's plane is funny to me.

Sparano has already agreed to coach Miami, Armando. That is how things ended January 5th. You people read this crap and believe he is near the "scoop". More than not, he is just full of poop.

Speaking of arseholes, whats's new Armando?

Uh... before you go on crowning Armando the "King of Reporters", do yourself a favor and ask him where he got his information. IF he tells you the truth I believe you'll feel differently about his skills in this matter. Good reporters credit the information which they do not gather themselves.

Yay we're hiring a puppet.

Jon Sciombi couldn't have said it better, "We would burn down the stadium if Mueller sold us on Sparano." But he's a parcells guy so yay.

When Parcells leaves we're going to be a mess.

Sparano? Are You Kidding Me?

There are so many coaches better than this guy.

Sorry people, not drinking the cool-aid.

See ya, Sparano

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland boarded a private plane to Dallas this morning and will return with Tony Sparano this evening.

"So unless something goes unexpectedly off course, the Dolphins are navigating toward having a new coach in place by sometime Wednesday. And the latest step in the process just happened when that jet carrying Ireland took off."

Seems as if the only question, as far as the Cowboys are concerned, is how many Dallas assistants will reunite with Sparano and Bill Parcells in South Florida.

Here's what Sparano's hometown paper is saying. BYW, I was born and raised in New Haven and they were always at the top of their division when Sparano was there.

Posted on Sun, Jan 6, 2008 Sparano offered head coaching job with Dolphins, By Dave Solomon, Register Staff

New Haven native Tony Sparano has been offered the head coaching position by the Miami Dolphins and will accept it at the conclusion of the Dallas Cowboys’ season, according to a source.

The 46-year-old Sparano, who graduated from Lee High and the University of New Haven, is the assistant head coach for the Cowboys.

He was hired at Dallas in 2003 by Bill Parcells, who promoted Sparano to assistant head coach. He was the offensive line coach, running game coordinator and play caller in 2006.

Parcells was hired as the Dolphins executive vice president of football operations Dec. 20. He has already hired Jeff Ireland from the Cowboys to become Miami’s general manager.

The Dolphins were 1-15 this season under first-year coach Cam Cameron, who was fired on Thursday.

Sparano also interviewed Saturday with the Baltimore Ravens and interviewed Friday with the Atlanta Falcons.

Sparano has also been an assistant coach with Washington, Cleveland and Jacksonville.

A 1982 UNH graduate, Sparano was the head coach of his alma mater from 1994-98, leading the Chargers to the 1997 NCAA Division II national championship game. He was an assistant at UNH from 1984-87 and an assistant at Boston University from 1988-93. BU was 11-0 in 1993. Sparano did not return calls.

Bad, that report you cite has been widely discredited everywhere. Denied by Dolphins, by Sparano and everyone else.

Moreover, if that paper wrote that, it was negligent in not answering how the NFL has not fined the Dolphins by breaking league rules for offering the job to a coach whose team is still in the playoffs, and by doing so before interviewing a minority candidate which the Dolphins didn't do until Jan 10.

So don't clutter this blog with more of your crap.

It is interesting that all of the haters just want to crowd up your blog, when the majority of us just want to thank you for giving us the information, and working hard to stay a few steps ahead of the rat race in Tuna land.

Thanks Mando....ignore the haters, and keep those sunglasses & hat on.

Yeah, it seems that an awful lot of congratulations and arse smooching. Kind of unusual for a reporter that has already made up his mind about things before he even hears the facts... this guy, this MANDO guy, has become another of the gems (NOT) of this town sports media. They all want to get to be on the radio or ESPN and forget that being a journalist is what is supposed to be their job.

CLICHES AND COACHES LAP DOGS THEY GIVE US ... and then they congratulate themselves.
NOBEL PRIZE MANDO, FOR SURE.

Why don't you tell us something we actually don't know already you are being paid to go in and smell the jockstraps and yet .... all the lame crap that comes out of your thing-a-ma-jig!
