"No coaches being interviewed today" (updated)

The Dolphins have requested and received permission to interview Dallas assistant head coach Tony Sparano for their head coach vacancy, according to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones who confirmed the request on his Dallas-area radio show today.

Sparano will interview Saturday although NFL rules state Miami will have until Sunday when the final wild card game ends to conduct the interview.

That is good because Sparano, considered the front-runner to get the Miami job, apparently has a pretty busy schedule the next day or so. He is scheduled to interview with both the Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens by Saturday. So it stands to reason the Dolphins could extend their talk with Sparano into Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, as I reported earlier, there are no interviews happening today at the Dolphins training facility. How do I know for sure?

The media is not allowed to roam the Dolphins facility so some of us have taken over a patch of swale across the road from the Dolphins training facility that allows print reporters to see who is coming and going while photographers shoot into the team's garage.

Well, around 10 a.m. Bill Parcells left the team's facility. But on his way down the road, he pulled up alongside the media contingent, rolled down his window and said, "Hey guys, there will be no coaches interviewed today."

A couple of the photographers, surprised by the gesture, asked for a clarification and Parcells said: "I wouldn't lie to you. You can go home. There will be no interviews today."

Alrightie then.

Anyway, there's your up to the second scoop.

so it would seem that the reporters are getting a bum deal... kicked out of the building and now Parcells is lying to them... eh, that's a shame....

Armando, I just want to take a moment to thank you for your hard, excellent work and diligence.

You are always first with the news. You are always ahead of the cycle. And when news isn't going on, you're pretty entertaining on here and on radio.

Appreciate you.

I would bet that Parcells' gesture merely means that any interviews will be conducted somewhere else. So, he was being nice to the reporters about wasting their time, but not being strictly honest.

Well, you see he can't be lying, he's not the head coach! hahahaha.

Seriously though, who cares if he lies to dudes who wait on the side of the road in a manner eerily similar to those who do not have a home? As long as he puts together an organization that wins football games. He has earned the benefit of the doubt in my opinion. If we start out 0-8 again, then I'd worry about what he's doing. For now, I have faith.

On a side, Armando, what the f*@k does it mean to have a contract "renewed" (ie - Ricky)??? I thought u either had a contract or didnt. If they want to keep you, they keep paying u; if not, they don't. Is that it, does it just mean they paid him, instead of just cutting him?

Isn't Jeff Ireland in Dallas today?

If that turns out to be a LIE, that would be a huge disappointment because, frankly, having covered this team for years, I've grown kind of weary of being told things like, "I will not be the Alabama coach." - Armando
Just imagine how the coaches and players feel when dealing with the media.
I can't tell you how many times I've read something that a coach or player was quoted as saying in one way, and when I see the video myself, realize the quote was taken completely out of context.
If people within the organization feel that they can't be upfront or that they have to out-right "lie" to you guys, maybe you should ask yourself "Why?"
Although I'm not a Parcells fan, he does have years of experience in dealing with the media. One wrong word and you guys are like sharks on a whale carcass (no offense meant Mr. Parcells).

Is this the part where we're suppose to have sympathy for you? Poor Armando and friends. They will no longer have access to any inside information since the mens room at the Dolphins facility is strictly off-limits. No more quoting the janitors as "an inside source." No more free doughnuts and coffee. I guess now, we can expect a succession of rapid-fire, negative toned articles (more than usual)aimed at the Dolphins in a "I'll show them" approach that really doesn't sit well with your reputation as a "professional." We've seen it all before and it's old. Try a different approach and you might be suprised.

My man Armando is giving you the latest and most updated information and the last couple of a-holes are talking about janitors and donuts?

You guys are sheer retards. It's a wonder you know how to read.

Great job Mando!

Hey Armando, this news reporting isn't too easy, eh? Pretty much 24/7 and things like camping out in the patch of swale across the road types of things? I'm guessing sports news is at least slightly easier since there probably isn't too much to do in the wee hours so it's like 18 or 20/7. Is true? If so, is that why you chose sports news over just news or did you ever get to do all the news?

Scoop? Where is it?

Armando, you need to raise your game.

As much as i am interested in the news about a new coach, i can wait.

Wake me up when you have something informative and substantial, will you?

Well, Arthur Blank is in Dallas today interviewing Garrett and Sparano, and if the Dolphins want to talk to either, it must be done before tomorrow per league rules.

Ireland is in Dallas, most likely, and the interview of Sparano will probably take place there.

More good toilet paper from Armando Salguero. Is this your A-game?

Let me get this straight, the press is mad at Parcells for lying? How much lying have you done Armando? Or are you just as dumb as you write?

2:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm failing to see why Parcells lieing to reporters would be a bad thing. I can't believe that someone would write here we go again types of statements. What does that mean? If Parcells lies to the media, that is somehow bad for the team? Why would that be? What does the media have to do with how good/bad the Dolphins play? I don't care if they tell the media anything. I just want to see this organization take football seriously and so far so good. And if Parcells was being honest that was a classy thing to do.

Thats just pathetic you guys are stalking the camp hoping for a glimpse of a person going in or out to create a story about. Hey I hear Brittney Spears is in the hospital, maybe head over there for a real scoop! Thats pathetic Armando, and you actually reported it like it's news worthy. I hope Big Tuna keeps all you guys out of the locker room next year. Perhaps let the players focus on what they do instead of dealing with "reporters".

SAVING THE FRANCHISE AND PUTTING PEOPLE INTO SEATS IN '08, YOU WERE A DOLPHIN STEAL.....NO ONE WOULD HAVE BOUGHT SEASON THICKET FOR '08 IF IT WERE NOT FOR YOU. So you wouldn't do that if the Miami Herald paid you a nice salary to do so? Why are you here anyway? Because you want the info those pathetic people dig up. Loser.

Armando, I'm glad you are on the case. Thank you. Anyone that comes here wants the latest information and the latest gossip even on their team.

You are the best at getting that information and I, for one, appreciate it. Fact is I wish the Dolphins would be more open with their information.

It doesn't affect competitive advantage if they tell you they're interviewing a guy or signing a guy. At the end of the day, great teams like the Colts operate in the light and win the Super Bowl. Teams like the Dolphins usually operate undercover because they don't want everyone to understand how many mistakes they make.

let's hope Parcells is this open all the time.

Am I missing something, Armondo isn't accusing Parcels of lying. He just said Jerry Jones said we had ask and received permission to interview Sparano for the job. He didn't say they were going to do it today. Were is everyone getting a lie out of this. Armondo is only trying to keep us up to date since so many changes have accured in the last couple of weeks, if you don't want to know what's going on then you don't have to log onto the site and read about it.

i see arthur blank handing the keys to the kingdom to sporano along with a cant refuse salary and perks to land the guy bill parcells covets the most.

you can bet blank is still seething on how bill punked him to go to miami and this would be a GREAT counter blow on his part.

and i wont mind a bit. there is something i just dont like about sporano. and i just have never liked the "if we have never coached with the guy we wont hire him" mentality. i dont think it hurts to have one guy, if qualified, in the loop to keep the crony talk at a minimum.

this would open the door for there seemingly second choice REX RYAN, the defensive coordianor of the ravens who the DOLPHINS CONTACTED and asked to interview.

i like this. the guy is absolutely loved and respected by the players in baltimore and is a wiz with the 3-4 defense which bill and company will be running.

HIRE TONY SPORANO ARTHUR!!!!

Great update, what a waste of space. The press is no friend to the Miami Dolphins, and Armando is no exception. Fafnfan is an idiot (thank you armando, kiss, kiss). Parcells fired Mueller, great move. He canned Cam, okay. But kicking Armando out of the facility, now that is priceless. Butt-out Armando, and let Bill do his magic.

Armando, this is in the Sun-sentinel story about sporano:
"The Cowboys are in the midst of their bye week, so Saturday is the last possible day he could be interviewed until Dallas is either eliminated in the playoffs or during the bye week (Jan. 21-26) between the NFL Championship games and the Super Bowl."

You are saying the Dolphins have until Sunday. I obviously believe you are right because that paper sucks ass and the story was written by one of their lesser-known guys. But could you please reassure me?

Are you people all stupid? Armando is a terrible writer, a terrible self-promoting pseudo-journalist who has no command of the English language. Every once in a while Armando gets some information, much like a squirrel finds a nut. "As I reported earlier," Armando snorts. And then he leaves the link! Armando, you are a very small man, obviously, and you are terribly insecure. You sound TERRIBLE on the radio, and your newspaper columns often say nothing. Like the other day, your column said the Dolphins needed to get more starting players. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? THAT'S YOUR THEORY? I'm sure Bill Parcells hasn't figured that out yet. What a stroke of brilliance by Armando. WHY ARE YOU EMPLOYED, YOU ARE TERRIBLE IN NEWSPAPER, IN BLOG, ON RADIO, IN SHORT ... YOU'RE TERRIBLE! RETIRE AND GO FLIP BURGERS, of course, you'll probably do that poorly as well.

Good luck.

WHO CARES if Bill is LYING!!! If he tells the truth all the time, then the media LIES and twists things around.

Bill is going to make the Dolphins Competative again!!! I support Parcells, he has done nothing but made a CRAPPY team and turned them around to be a GOOD team!
