Dolphins to play Bills in Canada

The NFL schedule is coming out in a few minutes but one thing I can tell you will happen for sure is the Dolphins will continue their international travels.

The team will play the Buffalo Bills in Toronto Dec. 7th at 4:05 p.m.

The Bills are playing a couple of games in Toronto this season to expand their fan base. Last season the Dolphins played the New York Giants in London.

Interesting ay?

The Dolphins will open the season with the Jets at home on Sept. 7th and finish with the Jets on the road Dec. 28th.

Miami's schedule is the most unbalanced in the league. Starting Oct 5th and spanning through November 23rd, the team will play six of eight games at home. But ...

Starting November 30th, the Dolphins will play four of their final five games on the road. Note that there are no prime time games (Monday or Sunday night) scheduled now. That is typical for a team not expected to be among the premier teams. If the Dolphins surprise, the can be flexed, so to speak, into Sunday night games late in the season.

I'm thinking 5-7 wins. The Schedule isn't that tuff, the harder games like Seattle and San Diego are at home. There's a few road games that could go either way like Arizona and Houston, never know what you are going to get with those teams. They play playoff teams a total of 4 times, 3of those are at home. All in all, you couldn't really ask for a better schedule

J. Long doesnt wanna play in miami? i wonder if this is just a smoke screen in negotiations.. so J. Long can squeeze more money out of the dolphins..

We suck. December swoon here we come. Oh, I forgot, it's impossible to swoon when you're already at the bottom of the standings.

OK boys....I predicted 1-15 last season the day the sked came out.

Impressions...predictions:

Prediction: I am forecasting 7-9

vs. NYJ L
@ ARI W
@ NEW L
vs. SD L
@ HOU W
vs. BAL W
vs. BUF W
@ DEN L
vs. SEA L
vs. OAK W
vs. NEW L
@ STL W
@ BUF (Toronto) L
vs. SFO W
@ KC L
@ NYJ L

Impressions:

A) I would assume that the Buffalo game in Toronto is played with the roof closed. If that's the case, we have a shot of going 8-8.

B) Really weird sked with pockets of back-to-back road games and a month-plus stretch of five home games -- more than half the sked -- in six weeks!

The Good News:
We get New England on the road in Sept and Buffalo in a dome.

On the whole, record-wise, this seems like a benign sked. One of the better ones we've had, I think.

NO Monday or Sunday nights! (I hate being on Monday Night Football....the fact that we're not on national TV is good for preparation, although vs. Oak and vs. NE are switchable games).

No West Coast appearances, just Denver and AZ, which are not bad trips time zone-wise.

We get SEA, OAK, SF and SD to haul their asses all the way down to South Florida....NICE!

The Bad News:
We end with the last two weeks in cold weather situations...one very hostile.

We get only two home games during the heat of Sept and early October.

Does anyone else think it's stupid of the league to put Bills-Dolphins in Canada? While we don't think of the Bills as primary rivals (though I do, living near Buffalo), Bills fans certainly do, especially old-school ones who remember 0-for-70s. They took a sure sellout away from a team that desperately needs to sell tickets. Plus, the "product" they're sharing with another country is a pretty lousy one: a mediocre Bills team and a rebuilding (perhaps "sucky") Miami team. At least England got the Giants! I know I won't get sympathy for the Bills here but put the shoe on the other foot and tell me it doesn't suck for Buffalo.

I wouldn't try to predict our season record till we know who will be our starting OL and QB.

The Baltimore matchup might be intersting we get to play against Cam offense (last years coach)

On the bright side, I didn't renew my season tickets ... And, even though I read his stuff in my local bird cage liner, I blame Armando for all the bad news.

See what Rick Spielman did to me?

Does the fact that the 'phins are playing in Canada mean they won't play another game outside the US for at least fourteen years?

I saw the game at Wembley and was delighted to see the Dolphins live for the first time, but the league said teams would have to play an international game only twice in a sixteen year period. I guess that means the phins are off the hook?

A few comments from a Canadian Dolfan

it is eh - not ey :)

The game will be in a dome so at least they don't have to worry about the weather!

Getting tickets for this is going to be crazy - waiting list 100,000

It has to be a smokescreen to get more money. At the Combine Jake Long said that it would be an honor to be drafted by the Dolphins. He seems like the kind of guy who will give it his all no matter where he goes.

Allow me to end the lunacy on this so-called Jake Long report: Forget it!

John Czarneki has proven to be an outstanding NFL information man for many years. But this is not really his best work.

First, Jake Long will go to whatever team picks him and like it, particularly if he's the No. 1 overall selection.

Second, if the Czar had this thing nailed, he would have led with it with blazing, neon-glowing headlines. It's the first pick of the draft for goshsakes. That makes it kinda important. Instead it was mentioned almost as an afterthought buried as a note.

Third, did you read it? He said something like "word on the street is." That is hardly good sourcing in my opinion.

Fourth, as stated earlier, Jake Long is on record as saying he would be "honored," to go to Miami with the first overall pick.

All right. No Snow or wind. Indoor stadium. So this actually makes it an even game save for the crowd. They will cheer for Buffalo.

if we get a michigan tackle it will be a nice season! Late season ronnie brown, some ricky tall receivers, COLD! All add up. Dont 4get ya, left tackle position is a $ posisiton. Any team with two tackles and a Center can tear it up

Why does New England have the league's easiest schedule again? Can the NFL be any more obvious who they want to win?

Go back and take a look at the highlights of Beck on that game against the eagles if all that talk that he did not get the practice time to be ready he is a keeper...If it was not for the dorps and tipically Mararky call playing (stupid) they could have won that game.
If we get a few good players for the lines and keep developing Beck behind a good running game we could win 8-9 games but we need luck on the draft and on the field.

On a more serious note......many people may not want to play in miami right now despite the beautiful weather, women and beaches. We need players that will make it desired to play in Miami again, especially our #1 pick.

Now to our schedule.....I have no idea what to expect.

vs. NYJ.....one close game.....one blowout last year....so many new players on both teams
@ ARI.....who will be AZ qb...Warner? Then again....who will be our qb?
@ NE....can we close the gap this year even a little bit....the second game could have been real close last year if cleo dives for the end zone and shulters makes that int
vs. SD....not confident about that one....chambers return to miami...hopefully he doesn't pull a culpepper
@ HOU W
vs. BAL....hopefully we're not looking for our first win again....no more Billick so no more gifts....the revenge of Cam? LOL....winnable game.
vs. BUF....one close loss....one lopsided...hopefully our oline is much better than that 2nd game this year....a lot like our 2 games with the jets.
@ DEN....didn't see much of denver last yr...no idea
vs. SEA....dunno....I really don't know.....are we gonna have the power run game parcells and sparano hope for?
vs. OAK....no more culpepper....russell in the mix....can he learn the playbook?

OK enough wasting your time people....sorry i can't replace the valuable minutes you lost reading my post.

The Dec 7 game in Toronto against the Bills was an early Christmas present for the Dolphins. The Rogers Center dome will almost certainly be closed and the worst of the rif-raf Bills fans aren't likely to be there. Bills fans in Buffalo aren't happy about this at all.

To Rudy,
The strength of schedule is misleading. It is based off of last year's wins & losses. Of course the Pats SOS will look like the easiest because you have the 'fins 1-15 record and the Jets record factored in. Truth is, the Fins and Pats play the same teams, except the Fins play Houston and Baltimore and the Pats play Indy and the Steelers. We actually have the easier schedule.

Being a life long fan from Toronto, I'm excited about not having to jump on a plane or having to go to the armpit of America (Buffalo) to watch my beloved 'fins!

Armando, you wanker! it's EH, not AY!

Anonymous Anonymous said...

To Martin K, I think the Pats have it easier because the Pats have to play Miami twice, while Miami gets two games versus New England. I'm sure that the differential comes because Miami only finished 15 games behind NE last year.

But I do love the Fins!
