Dolphins forbid live blogging at minicamp and all camps

The Dolphins have just announced that they are not allowing any live blogging at their practices, including this minicamp.

You guys that defended the team's ridiculous new clamp down on the media, have fun. No live information for you on what is happening during today's practice -- or any practice, for that matter.

The reason the Dolphins say they are not allowing this to happen is that they've never allowed live accounts of practices before. Except they did allow live blogs last year so that is a lie. Media relations VP Harvey Greene says he conducted an unscientific survey of 15 other NFL teams and was told by 13 of them they do not allow live blogging. He did not say which teams he talked to nor did he say which teams allowed it.

Anyway, if you don't mind, so be it. If you are the least bit disturbed by the information blackout, say so. I guess we'll do it the old fashioned way -- I'll take notes and file a blog about practice, you know, after practice.

Here is the Dolphins minicamp roster:
1 Dan Carpenter K
7 Chad Henne QB
11 Justin Wynn WR
14 jayson Foster WR
15 Davone Bess WR
26 Lex Hilliard RB
27 Will Billinglsley CB
31 Jalen Parmale RB
35 Aaron Lane CB
48 Matthew Mulligan TE
49 Kelly Popinga LB
57 Titus Brown LB
60 Mike Byrne CB
61 Shawn Murphy G
63 Kory Robertson NT
66 Don Thomas G
67 Darren Heerspink T
70 Kendall Lnagford DE
71 Lionel Dotson DE
73 Dan Gore T
79 Jake Long LT
84 Selwyn Lymon WR
86 Marcel Reece, WR
97 Phillip Merling DE

The team also has 15 workout players trying to earn an invitation to training camp. They are:
6 Radamez Rubio Gaytan, K
8 Willie Copeland QB
36 Rolly Lumbala, FB
38 Tim Mixon CB
40 Roger Williams S
41 Scorpio Babers CB
42 Khristopher Kasparek TE
44 Aaron Weathers S
45 Sam Juckeba LB
50 Brandon Ogletree LB
53 Brandon Renkart LB
58 Keith Saunders LB
62 Anthony Toribio NT
78 Chris Capote, G
93 Brandon Jones DE

This team is a turd. What harm could a live report from a minicamp do?

I think its better to read a complete summary after the fact, then having to sit around forever hitting refresh to get two line updates. So, I have no problem with this rule.

Feeling kind of anxious not knowing what Chad Henne & Jake Long are up to, minute by minute. I guess I wll spend my time running my new picks through workouts on Madden '08!

Pardon my French, but that's bullshit. So can't you just write done what you would have live blogged, and then post it once the practice is over? If so, then what is the point of prohibiting it. I'd understand if this was during the season and the team was running it's playbook, but it's THE FIRST ROOKIE MINI-CAMP. Boo Dolphins media relations!

Armando, this is Ricardo again from Nicaragua, hope all is well with you, man.

Dude, this is crazy, what the heck is technology good for if we have to go back to taking notes and posting them at the end of the day? Who are these marketing people for the Fins? Don't they get that they are lucky they even have fans left after 25 years of sucking, and that the fact there are people even interesting in live blogging of PRACTICE is something they should be thankful for and actually using it as a marketing tool?! Whatever, just take good notes.

I am very interested in how Henne looks and how the new linemen take the heat, but also maybe we can find a diamond in the rough receiver from one of these guys.

Have you heard of any movements on the receiver side?

Have a great day! GO FINS!

Armando,
This bashing of the franchise is getting old. Check out the real dolphin beat writer with actual football content: Omar/south florida sun . Armando without any anger you should really look at your reporting and take a hard look at why everyone respects Omars' writing and fact based reporting. Depth charts and battle stories not whining! You can dismiss this as just another guy venting but I hope you take the comments seriously.......get over yourself and your interviews with ESPN!

No lockeroom access??? Oh your not going in the lockeroom right? Well I hope these top secret rookie camps aren't just hiding how a Rookie QB, who had one good game against a crappy Florida secondary, Sucks... Have fun.. enjoy the company of "Le Bullet" . I can't blame them, every move they make they are picked apart and trashed for it by the media down there.Ever since Bill Parcells has been here the Dolphins have been attacked for who they cut or who they draft. This is a new front office and team they are not responsible for 1-15.

Anonymous,

There is difference between journalists and pundits. Journalists report. Pundits use reports and editorilize. To hold journalists responsible for what pundits in the media do with the info is crazy.

This organization is preventing bonafide media reporters from doing their job. IT won't solve a thing. Pundits will editorilize regardless of whether there is bonafide info or not.

See that's the problem with your view, isn't Mando? You're focused on reporting and "having fun," the Dolphins happen to want to WIN...and allowing you to report information directly from their camp to other AFC East teams isn't exactly brilliant. Think.

Ehhh.... in case anyone missed it, this team has not made the playoffs in 6 years and has gone more than 30 since a championship. They have traded away meaningful picks guys like AJ Feeley and Lamar Gordon.

Our best and most respected player on either side of the ball is getting leaner on a reality dance show rather than getting in football shape and building the explosiveness he needs - oh and he is coming off a season where for the most part he got handled by opposing tackles whenever it mattered.

WE WERE 1-15!!!!!...And that one game was a gift from Brian Billick who had us on the ropes and blew it.

Anon, what good things are there to say? Honest reporting leads to some bleak statements these days. Join reality and understand that there is hope, but based only on lots and lots of faith - not facts.

What is the point of blogging at practice anyway??

well lets see. the first dumb comment you made was saying that this team traded away meaningful players like AJ FEELEY AND LAMAR GORDON!! ARE YOU KIDDING. if you going to say anybody at least use Wes Welker's name. But thats besides the point. This team has gone through 5 coaches. If anyone is to blame its those coaches who left because they couldnt hack it in the NFL (Nick Saban).

The second mistake you said is that our best player is off dancing getting slimer. UM SO WHAT!! What most people dont know is that alot of football players, being running backs, wide recievers, or defensive back, use dancing to help them with their balance and foot speed. So your an assh**e for suggesting that just because he's dancing on TV he's any less a football player. He'd tear you apart. And to say that he got man handled by opposing tackles... The guy had 46 tackles and 11 FING SACKS! 11!! how many other defensive ends put up those kinds of numbers? how many other defensive ends COULD have put up those numbers on the dolphins horrible defense last season. And HE'S GETTING BETTER BECAUSE HE'S WORKING ON HIS FOOTWORK. People really have no clue how things work. They just repeat what they hear from idiot reporters like Armando.

Mr. Salguero, instead of concentrating on the Organization and their policies, concentrate on what the players do on the field, anyways that's why we come here to read your stuff, we want to know how the do after a hard practice.
Look man, the canes do the same, they don't let us go to their practices because they don't us to see how much the suck during practice, when they get good i bet you, they'll open practices to the public again.

You don't want to show a bad product early because if you do, you won't sell it. That's why you need to run your betas version before you release the final product.

My comment has been censored!!!! An outrage to say the least. And this after criticizing the Dolphins for no live blogging. Interesting, to say the least... A tad hypocritical to say the most... The puzzling part is that I did not use any foul language, racial, religious or other slurs. As such, I have to wonder if I hit a little too close to home.

So I'm re-posting my comments in the hope that some of you readers can see what was originally censored before it's censored again.

"You guys that defended the team's ridiculous new clamp down on the media, have fun."

Dude - this is getting really sad. Now you are putting down your readers for having an opinion that is different from yours.

I look at it this way, a good reporter would have known about the team not allowing live blogging in advance.

So don't blame the team for your own lack of effort in doing your job. Also, don't set expectations for deliverables when you can't guarantee their actual delivery.

If you didn't know it, each time you comment on a blog, you add to his blog count which tells his boss that he is driving people to the paper and his blog which in returns helps his cause and position with the paper. Think about this....Your negative comments are a good thing for him. Is it ironic that your hate for Armando keeps him employed. It's life beautiful

Answer: perhaps some people are trying to provide constructive criticism in the hopes that the quality of this blog improves. Armando, sure we'd like like blogging, but if the dolphins don't want it, then just do what they say! Live blogging is prohibited in a lot of arenas these days. And frankly, sometimes the live blog gets me down because I'd have to read line after line of "this is boring." "There's nothing going on." "They're just doing drills."

So it's not like the live blogging you guys did was a whole lot of fun and extremely informative.

Why can't you just do what reporters do and take notes? Even talk into a recorder? That way you can look straight ahead and not miss anything on the field. Then you can go home (or office) and organize your observations into coherant sentences.

How about that? Like..be a reporter?

5:43 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Well, with live blogging, sometimes the press loses perspective of the whole picture and we only get bit and pieces. Armando, now you can concentrate on watching the whole day of camp and the reach conclusions. What do you do before when twrw was no blogging? So just calm down, everything will be alright.

Armando...put it together in a few concise paragraphs and I will read it in a few minutes in the morning. And quit whining! Just because you can't reveal the secrets of the Dolphins to the rest of the world, and then pound your chest and declare victory for doing so, doesn't mean the world is going to come to an end. It only means we might be able to spring some surprises on the other guys for a change.

Hi Mando

Greetings from Sydney, Australia

The new policy on live blogging makes no sense. If you file a report or post in real time the information contained is the same, why the change ? Since when do the Dolphins take the lead about what to do from other franchises ? Please ask Harvey to take the lead, out the customers/fans first, and give us breaking news in real time. What is the point of playing games in London (2007), Toronto (2008) and having the NFL stream games live through Yahoo in real time to any global location (outside the USA) and not have the same policy for mini camps and training camp. As long as you are not scripting plays and posting the playbook on the web (although that would be great) live blogging does not provide any confidential information to the competition - it just builds excitement - Respect MY Code !!

Armando- I've read your blog for quite a while, and have been on the fence about some of your writing. But I'd like to say that some of the recent, negative garbage coming your way is absurd and unfair. Half these idiots are whiners without a life. People whine and moan when they get no news, then do the same when you offer bits and pieces of what you can find from a tight-lipped regime. The "no live-blogging" rule is idiocy, regardless of how many teams do it... and anyone who begs to differ is just as idiotic. It serves no purpose, b/c people could make the same exact notes and pass them on to the respective teams who may/may not be scouting. Bottom line, lately I see great efforts on your part, regardless of some past annoyances you've caused me... you're right in saying some of these folks need to get a life. You can't win for trying.

Lastly, PLEASE delete the most idiotic post of all, in which "Shawn" said,
