Jags trade-up to get DE hurts Dolphins

You can remove one of the teams that had shown the most interest in trading for Jason Taylor from the list of possibilities.

The Jacksonville Jaguars traded up from No. 26 to No. 8 today and used the pick on Florida DE Derrick Harvey. Harvey had all of 4.5 sacks last season and yet the Jags gave up their pick in the first round (No. 26 overall, along with their two third round picks) for the chance to move up.

So where does that leave the Dolphins as they try to trade Taylor?

Philadelphia, Washington, Dallas, and lately San Diego and Green Bay are showing as the biggest interest if a trade is to be made.

Frankly, I don't see anyone giving up a first round pick for Taylor, however. We'll see.

I think the Jags made a huge mistake in giving up so much for an unproven rookie DE. They could have gotten JT for a 1st only from the Phins and secured atleast 10 sacks and a veteran leader in the locker room.

With the 17th pick the Lions pick Gosder Cherilus. He's a right tackle who isn't very good at LT.

Four of the last six picks have been offensive tackles.

Texans on the clock.

Texans trade their pick to the Ravens, who I believe will try to pick a QB -- maybe Henne.

What do you think about Aqib Talib? Will he be there at 32? If he is I think the dolphins should take him, what are your thoughts?

Eagles are out of the first round altogether. So much for Miami getting a first from them. Another one bites the dust.

Eagles now have the 43rd pick. Any chance that's for JT?

Wow, Eagles get all that.

5:17 PM
Blogger JB said...

There is no doubt that Brian Brohm or Chad Henne will be the pick at 32. Sure we have Beck but you can't have enough good QBs with trade value. I think Henne is probably a tick better than Beck right away and much younger. Brohm, I can't believe he has fallen the way he has because of a bad football team he had to carry last year. Either one would start for Miami week 1.

5:17 PM

Eagles got a second rounder, a fourth rounder and a first rounder in '09. Great trade for Iggles.

But again, if they are to get Taylor, it'll have to be with their second rounders 43rd and 49th overall).

5:18 PM

As they just mentioned on ESPN, now we get to the playoff teams.

These are the teams supposedly that would be a player away that might be most interested in Taylor.

Very talented. Very talented. Good playmaker. But not super fast and off field issues.

Not smoking any Ricky weed, I just think if you have an opportunity to get either QB there you have to do it with the state of the QB position in Miami for so long.

Quinton Groves, Lawrence Jackson.........at 32.

At this point, I really really hope they can jump into the first round with a JT trade. We will miss him, he was great, but we lost the Round 4 pick to Dallas, and we need more top 100 guys.

Go Jake

5:23 PM

Kind of off topic here, but for all those people who were hesitant to pick Jake...........Atlanta just traded up for Sam Baker!!!

If we had taken Chris #1, we would be looking at Div 1-AA left tackles as what might be left.

Steeler, a team with a pro bowl RB who they got without using a draft pick, now use a first-rounder on Rashard Mendenhall.

That's a good player, but it hardly addresses needs. They lack S depth and their CBs are questionable.

Personally, I think Brohm is better, but Im just saying what I think BP will do. Id be happy with either but I think Brohm is the better of the two. I think he got a bad rap for a lowsy team this past season and everyone forgets about how good he really is. Granted, the Dolphins might have a hard time beating Louisville right now so he wont be gang busters but he can utilize Ginn's speed with that arm.

I think it fits perfectly what they needed for that offense. They do not have a game breaker other than Young, now they have one. He isnt going to be Darren McFadden but he is going to make teams respect run and rb pass in the flat on the third down. One of the LBs will have to focus on that kid and it will give VY more options.

Ok for the record, I had Merling in my top 5 going into the pick so I am not pissed. I think he was the best D Lineman there so Im happy we got him but we better freakin trade up and grab Henne or Brohm!!!!!

I dont think there was any message here...they picked a LT, they needed a DE....Merling was rated in Round 1 on lots of boards. He looks a little soft to me, but he was productive, has good size, and the experts liked him...so, now to get a CB, and Brohm?

Merling just said on a conference call that he could practice this week if he had to. That is how healthy he says he is.

He said patterned his game after, you guessed it, Jason Taylor.
