Zach Thomas free agent tour starts in New England

Ready for the nightmare? Well, close your eyes and imagine Zach Thomas in a Patriots uniform.

Now open your eyes. Voila!!! Your nightmare is close to coming true.

Thomas will be in New England today to visit with the Patriots brass. The meeting will take place at Gillette Stadium.

It is no secret that Thomas has cast his eyes on playing for a winner and I can tell you that former Dolphins linebacker Larry Izzo, who is friends with Thomas and has played for the Patriots since 2001, has often told Thomas how great it is to be in Boston.

Thomas will probably have a physical and if that goes well -- meaning Thomas is indeed as healthy as he states -- I would not be suprised if this signing happens before the visit is over. The Patriots have a history of acting quickly on such matters and the fact they have moved ahead of New Orleans and Dallas on Thomas's itinerary speaks volumes.

Thomas was to meet with New Orleans on Tuesday and his agent was to speak with the Cowboys on Wednesday.

No offense Zach....but going to New England means I hope we run all over you guys :)

Honestly, who cares if he ends up there? Their defense is not what separates them from the rest of the division and the potential addition of Thomas would not change that.

It would be a very hyped up move just like Seau, who was one of the most overrated players in the league last year.

Zach is just like any other highly paid athlete. As fans we have more alegiance to our team than athletes. He is certainly not worth the money he was paid last year and would have made this year. I am sure no ther team will pay him what he would have made with the Dolphins this year. Good luck to him and let us move on.

Why didn't we get rid of that over-hyped and over-priced Joey Porter and give the money to Zach?

See what happens when you lose for too long? You can't even take your rivals seriously anymore. Years ago a move by Thomas to the Pats would have seemed like treachery of the worst kind. Now? Honestly who cares? By the time the Dolphins are really relevant again in another 3-4 seasons (if a franchise QB can be found) Thomas will be back working for the Dolphins as an LB coach. So what if a good guy gets to play for something again?

Just means another high draft pick for the fins next year!

Everyone remembers that Marino came within inches of playing for Minnesota before he retired. If that had happened, I would have become a Vikings fan for as long as he played there. HOWEVER, if Marino had gone to the Jets or Bills, (that era's Patriots), I would have been sick to my stomach because my childhood hero had betrayed me.

That is how I would view Zach Thomas, OR Jason Taylor for that matter, going to the undeserving, pompous, smug, cheating Patriots.

Why can't he have enough loyalty to just go play somewhere that isn't our fricking arch rivals?! WTF, Zach?! Seriously, all the kids in Miami with Zach Thomas posters are going to be crushed. And now what about my Madden franchise, I have to cut you on principle!

At this point I couldn't care less where Zach plays. He is no longer a Dolphin and I wish him the best of luck, but we have more pressing issues to worry about right now. Who will be the starting QB, will they find a DT that can stop the run, Will Ronnie Brown return to form after his injury, and how in the world are we ever going to replace Chris Liewinski :)? I could care less about Zach's sexual preference. It may have caused some discomfort in the locker room, but it never showed on the field. I wish him luck in New England.

ZAch does not owe the Dolphins anything -- they cut him like yesterday's garbage.

Go with the Patriots, ZAch.

Wouldn't be ironic if he was hit by a Dolphin's fan outside of Scumbag stadium in Foxboro?

>>>Zach is just like any other highly paid athlete.<<< Except that he's highly unlikely to be a highly paid athlete with his next team, especially if it's New England. Because of his age and recent injury history, I would expect that Zach's contract would be for the vet minimum plus incentives tied to perfromance and, most importantly, playing time. Zach might retire once this reality surfaces, because the likelihood of him playing an entire season seems remote at this point.

The patriots ahve a history of picking up players that play well against them (welker, morris. moss). Zach is no exception it's better to have him on your team than someone else picking him up and telling them how to stop Brady. I know for a fact that Zach and Taylor are two of the biggest thorns in Brady'side.

I am a true Fins fan and I believe Zach has always given his whole heart to the Fins. Why not wish him well? Don't forget he did not leave the organization, the organization gor rid of him. I don't care who Zach plays for he deserves a chance to play for a high caliber team, the same goes for Jason Taylor. They have been playing for years for a org. that was not trying to build on anything. Just these guys given their all on a team with no offense.
PS. And yes the wrong quaterback was drafted.

Well, here you are reading this so let us begin.

I know for a fact that a fact is a fact. I aso have it on good authority from sources close to the story that we can expect something else to happen, if not immediately then sometime in the future. That much we can count on.

I pass on this kind of 'breaking news' and offer first hand accounts of these 'developing situations' not because I want to seem important or that I have powerful insights not available to the general public. Nor do I want to come off as smug and all-knowing as I write into a blog and then immediately read my own post, taking solace and consolation in knowing that at least one person has read it. I do not take glory in the knowledge that I have contributed to the enlightenment of humanity. I just do it because that is precisley the kind of guy I am.

As a blogger, others might typify me as a loser, a social outcast who never made it with the ladies, a person living in my parent's basement, or someone who has too much idle time, courtesy of a a recent firing, a divorce and seeking an escape through the fantasy of writing amazing things that make people take notice and perhaps say "Honey, I just read that anonymous guys opinion and his manner of critical thinking has given me pause to reflect on how righteous he is and how I should spend more time not doing useful things but rather waiting for his next bit of conjecture so I can be more appreciative of his opinion. Wow!"

This concludes todays missive. If you have enjoyed reading it half as much as I have enjoyed writing it, then I have enjoyed it twice as much as you have.

Caballero, you were almost witty, and almost funny. But you went on way too long to be considered anything but annoying. I enjoyed the first portion of your nonsense, and if the second portion was tightened up it could have been amusing. But by the time I reached the third portion, (which really by its own merit, is slightly funny) I just found myself wishing you'd stop trying so hard to be funny...

Everyone said Miami in the minor league team for the Pats. Looks like that will be proven one more time. How can a team like Miami fall so low? 40 years being a fins fan, I am tied of this crape.

Armando - Can you please give us info on what is really important and stop with the insights on X-Dolphins? How about some scoop on who the Fins are looking at in terms of free agency. How about some insider info on draft strategy? Now that would be valued info from a great sports reporter. Start giving us real Fins news and stop with the drama...you sound like Opra!

Who cares whether he is gay or not? The fact is he is a great player and none of that should matter.

Nothing to cry for at this time. The Dolphins are not going to be contenders before Zach retires. Great player, but time to move on for both parts.

Why do ignorance have to be written - such as Zach's lifestyle being gay? For goodness sakes, he's married and IF it's a cover-up -so be it. It has nothing to do with football nor this column of why he may play with Pats. The fact shouldn't shock any fan. Our released top players head to N.E. for more quality - hoping for a chance of S.B. ring ... plain / simple.

4:42 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I hope they sign him. Zach will take less money to get a ring. He deserves a ring. The Pats may not run the table again next year, but they should be a Super Bowl Team, especially if they resign Moss. They're just that good. Being a Dolphin fan, I'd be more than happy for Zach to be part of a Super Bowl winning team. He deserves it....but just next year. Get it done then retire before the Dolphins get competative again. Don't need you on that roster in 2-3 years.

He said he would be a Miami Dolphin forever??? And how he appreciates how the organization treated him with respect, but yet this is how he treats this organzation that respected him?? And this is how he shows respect towards them by going to a division rival?? One that CHEATS at that?? Yeah it is great to go there, why?? Because they CHEAT. If I was any player, that would be the last place I would go.

5:26 PM

Who cares if New England gets him. Zach was on the Dolphins this year and we still almost lost every game. Face it Dolphins wont contend till 2012 and Zach will be long gone by then. I say give JT his get out of jail free card as well. So be it. The nightmare isnt how good NE is but it is how pathetic the Dolphins have become. Good Luck Zach wherever you go!

I hope he wins a championship with whomever he signs with. He deserves it!

If this is his thank you to the organization that treated him with respect, and the fans that adored him, then screw him. Going to a division rival only shows he lacks appreciation for the organization and the fans in Miami. But yet again, Miami does the stupid thing of letting go of players. And we all know that NE is good at picking them up, because without our leftovers, they would be nothing anyway...

5:28 PM

He deserves to be on a winning SB team, but that is not NE. You people are stupid and Naive just like Roger Goodell. People cannot open their eyes and see what cheaters these losers are. Wanna win a SB??? Do it the right way, dont go to a team with that cheats to win victories and SB's. He should go to the Giants or the Colts if he wants to go to a REAL SB winner.

Ok Armando, let's face it we're DOLFANS and we follow our team, like many guys had posted, we care of what's coming, the future, that's why Zach was cut, I loved Zach when he played for the dolphins and we'll be lucky if we get another player like him, but let's move on and let Zach worry about where he plays next season or if he's healthy.

I recommend to start with the situation of the team, injuries update (R&R), free agent status (Bell, Hadnot specially) and what to expect from the Tuna & company for the free agent period, there's a lot to be covered instaed of crying for the spilled milk.

Anonymous, look at how many more hits Armando gets on this blog when he writes his dramatic soap opera pieces. I would also like to hear about all of the things you mentioned, but that's not going to help Armando now is it? The more hits he receives on this blog the happier the boss is. Look what happened at the simple mention of C Peps name last year, it was war in here! Armando's just trying to get ahead like the rest of us. But at least he tries and he does write some interesting articles. Compared to LeBetard,Cote, and mister hollier than thou Darlington, Armando is the best thing this sports section has going for it. you guys are totally nuts. overpaid athletes? do you know how much money those suits upstairs get for not doing a thing other than shaking hands with other suits?

nfl players put their bodies through absolute hell, and if you ask me they're under-compensated relative to what the nfl and network advertising take in. zach was getting what, $4.5 mil. the dolphins make that back in two seconds doing things like forcing loyal season ticket holders to pay full price for four PRESEASON games.

as for zach going to the patriots, i think the guy deserves to be on a winner. he's worked harder than any of you will in your entire life. and if you don't believe that, you're naive.

Good luck in New England Zach. Whew, that was hard to write. He would be an upgrade over Seau or Brewski. Just dont go undefeated.

I would like to second the motion to get some stories going on draft and free agengy strategies.

Ditto on the whole gay thing. It shouldn't matter and whether he enjoys a gay lifestyle off the field shouldnt be discussed here. What a football player does on his own time is his own business. I think Zach is a great player and I wish him well.

miami still needs taylor for the
simple fact of leadership.he still
has great abilities and understan-
ding of the game.do not get rid of
him because zach is gone.taylor
rarely gets hurt and zach was get-
ting hurt alot the past two seasons.you dont pay someone to
stand on the side lines.and I be-
lieve this team coming up can be
a 8+8 or 9+7 team,baring injuries.
lets see what happens, we can only
go up from last season.

I have been a Zach fan for years and appreciate the frustration he must have felt in being one of the few consistent bright spots with a team mired in rebuilding phase for eternity. Having said that, I would be disappointed in Zach if he used this frustration to justify signing on to an organization of proven liars and cheaters. Zach, I hope you know what you're doing. Thanks for all the years and tackles!

Rivals? New England and Miami are in the same conference, but to be "rivals," each team has to win sometimes. As a Pats fan I hate the dolphins, but not as a rival but as an annoying neighbor you have to see twice a year at the block party and the Christmas social. Just the team's colors alone are enough to make me cringe. But "rivals" lends the Dolphins a bit too much credit.
