New Mexico out at QB?
Marcus Vick did not take any snaps at quarterback in the team and seven-on-seven periods during today's final practice of the minicamp.
He spent all of his time during the session at receiver and, frankly, he looked better at receiver than he did the previous two days at QB. But that doesn't mean he was good.
He made one really nice diving sideline grab during the seven-on-seven but that only made up for an easy drop he had on a similar pattern several plays earlier.
As I have reported in The Herald, his chances of getting a contract offer strictly for his quarterback abilities are practically nothing. The guy is a tryout player during this camp, in case you weren't aware, and doesn't have a contract.
Coach Nick Saban said today that no decisions have been made on any players and that the coaches and personnel dept. people will meet either later today or by tomorrow and form their final opinions.
Unless they see a different player on tape than the one I saw on the field, Vick's Dolphins career is over.
The Dolphins will offer contracts to whichever tryout players they like in the coming week so they can take part in the Organized Team Activities (OTA) that starts the week of May 15.

Hmmm you seem really down on Marcus...yet you continue to spend time writing about him. The Miami press spent 5 of the first 6 question asking about him after day one of this camp....about a guy who went undrafted and is unsigned to your team. I am certain they were told that no further questions re: him would be fielded for the rest of the weekend and that is likely the only reason they didn't ask on the next two days. I challenge you to be bigger than a common journalist who is out to simply get a sensational headline on baseless controversy. Even going so far as to coin a nickname for him based on a situation that did not even involve him. I challenge you to be a journalist who actually goes out and looks at all side of the situation objectively. oh...that would be too much work and too unpopular. be that as it may the Dolphins will do what, in their eye's is best for the team, they will continue to manage their team and you will continue to write....and life will go on.
Did you ever say how much time you spent watching Marcus play in college? Did you do any research into the negative events that have involved him? Did you ever talk to him? Anyone that knows him? Former teammates and coaches? Read transcripts from court filings? Or did you just write a story based on other stories you've read and on things you’ve heard? Do journalist ever do real investigative work anymore?
well, I hope he got a good education at VT. He's going to need it.
Marcus Vick is the Paris Hilton of the football world.
Has accomplished virtually nothing, oozes confidence and self-satisfaction despite that fact, we care about him only because of what his last name is, he eats up the limelight...
the only thing missing is the internet porn tape....and the little purse dog.
I was impressed -- both off his practices and from talking to him -- with former Colorado State quarterback Justin Holland. He throws a sweet deep pass. I will give a complete scouting report on the minicamp tomorrow.
And to whomever posted anonymously (really classy, by the way): I have nothing against Vick. Don't know him, have no opinion about him as a person. But if the kid struggles on the field, I'm going to write it. I was there, you weren't.
Armando,
I find it funny that you of all people would address the subject of class. Please.
"I was there you weren't." A very classy thing to say...
Armando, It's people like you that think they know what a person is all about Question is what do you really know about Marcus Vick? Before you slam a person in the media why not take the time to get to know them first. Marcus Vick is in fact a good person that made a few mistakes If you knew the young man you would see the same. What is it because of his past and the fact he went to Va. Tech you have to down grade him? Headline Vick becomes a Dolphin.
Armando,
You have nothing against him personally? If it weren't personal you wouldn't call him out of his name. And since you were there and I wasn't, why did you spend your time today writing about a camp invitee instead of the draft picks that you're going to write about tomorrow? Your first story today was about someone that is not even signed to your team...something just seems odd with that picture. You simply wanted the headline and thus are no better than a mere tabloid reporter.
Comparatively, my hometown beat writer does not even mention prospects unless they do something ompletely outstanding. But then again none of our prospects are last named Vick....
Go read your hometown beat writer, you turd. I happen to appreciate updates on all the guys in my teams camp so this post is appresiated.
Looks like we got ourselves some Virginny redneck getting all hot and bothered because people aren't being nice to his wildly overrated, idiot quarterback.
I'm sure your local beat writer up there in Possum Holler is doing a mighty fine job breaking down the minutae of Hokie-land, but down here in the developed world we like journalists who actually say things and are willing to take a pop at a legendary screw-up when he shows up for a tryout.
I find the comments slanted but also risky - If he's signed, then what will you say? I mean, if he's signed then your analysis, your credibility as someone who "was there and watched" is totally in the toilet. I will be here to write and laugh if that occurs.
Nearly every player invited has a past rap sheet - what's worse, stomping on a guy during a game (alla Duke's famed Christian) OR holding up a pizza driver at gunpoint and stealing his car (Issac Hilton)? Write about his past in context, not in a vacuum.
If Marcus were the ONLY guy invited with a significant past, then your slated views could be taken objectively. Unfortunately, they look like a smear campaign by a biased miami hurricanes fan.
Fortunately for fins fans, your opinion means jack to the organization. Your a beat reporter watching summer minicamps. Yawn.
Look, this is a weblog, not 60 Minutes, not the evening news, and not the Late Edition of the Miami Herald... the point of a blog is that the author offers his thoughts and opinions and then shmucks like us can discuss them in the comments box. It is absolutely ridiculous that anyone would suggest that Armando should "report the new without judgement". As a beat writer for the Miami Herald, yes, absolutely, he should abide by a standard of objectivity, but in his blog he should be allowed to share whatever opinions he has on whatever he wants to talk about.
Look, you can disagree with anyone's opinions on this board, but for the love of Jessica Alba let's keep this thing respectful.
-Swine, who likes the format, likes the diversity of opinions, but does not like the personal attacks and macho nonsense.
Okay okay, I was just a little bit pissy about some VaTech guy having an unnecessary go at a good writer. Sheesh, I didn't think that made me the Grand Wizard.
By all means, let's get back to the football. And yeah, let's hear more about New Mex ... erm, that fine and upstanding younger Vick.
seriously, anonymous. i dont comment on posts. but i have to now. you're hung up on some bad bitterness towards a newspaper columninst? really? talk about the definition of a loser. what did armando do? steal your girlfriend? turn you down when you tried to pick him up? what a douche bag you are! get off this blog, move out of your mother's basement and get a life.
Sorry, Cubanculebra, you wrote a fine analysis of the minicamp, but I had to delete your post because the purpose of this blog is not to advertise for someone else's blog or website. Feel free to repost without including the paid political ad.
Meanwhile, most of the rest of you guys are really, really funny in the ways you express yourselves. Love it.
I think we should sign him and put him at kick returner. He will only be a cancer if we buy into his hype. Remind him that he needs us more than we need them.
well, rumor has it the phish are trying to sign Marcus :).
Remember this post

well, here I am, and I'm laughing out loud. Excellent mini camp reporting Armando - I mean, if only we could all analyze the sport as well as you do.

MIAMI (AP) - The Miami Dolphins saw enough potential in Marcus Vick - both on- and off-the-field - to believe he deserves a chance as a free agent.
Enough said... Just watch...

Oh Buy the way I hope you have gotten to know Marcus a little better.... Tech Fan... Hokies, that is... And Yes I am a Blue collar Red Neck and proud of it... But, I proved you wrong...
"Unless they see a different player on tape than the one I saw on the field, Vick's Dolphins career is over."
-the overpaid journalist
Hello sir - I guess the head coach did see something different. I can't wait to read your next column - I will laugh while you marginalize your own comments - try to claim a distinction of some kind. Hopefully, you will admit the DEAD wrong analysis you provided us all.
I'd give anything to have a 5 minutes conversation with your boss.
this guy is so biased against Marcus, yet he is rooting for Brock Berlin? such homerism ...
anyone who knows anything about football can see that an ALL ACC QB in his only year starting, who was high school player of the year in Virginia, is an athletic freak who deserves a close look ... amazed this guy has a job as a sports reporter and is that clueless.
I'm glad the Dolphins got Joey Harrington and Daunte Culpepper. But Marcus Vick sucks and he's a thug. It disappoints me the Dolphins got him. And with all the VT rednecks on his side, I have found another reason to wonder about him.
Armando.. come on tell us what number he's going to wear!! do your job and find out!!
