Ted Ginn is in the house and ready to sign

(Just updated)

Ted Ginn Jr met Wayne Huizenga's deadline.

The Dolphins first round pick has agreed to a six-year deal that can void to five years. Further financial terms are not yet available. Ginn is expected to sign the deal within the next couple of hours.

This means Ginn will be on the field for Miami's first training camp practice Saturday. It also means the Dolphins won't have to play hardball while living up to owner Huizenga's threat that any rookie that didn't sign by the start of camp would be sitting out the entire season.

It has been an interesting few days for the negotiators on both sides. I'm told the sides pretty much had a deal in place by Tuesday but when the Dolphins pressed Ginn's agent to pull the trigger, he backed away.

This is speculation on my part, but I'm thinking agent Neil Cornrich didn't want to step out and do a deal before the picks around Ginn did their contracts. The Dolphins apparently reacted quite strongly to this, stressing to Cornrich that they were absolutely NOT BLUFFING about sitting Ginn for the season.

Ultimately, Huizenga's policy on threatening to sit players works for the Dolphins this year. But I still don't think it's a wise policy to have.

I guess we'll find out now if he lives up to all the hype. I'm sure you reporters will keep us abreast of his traning camp activities.

Thanks for the scoop Armando! Now, hopefully Wayne will not run around and say "Hey everybody, all my rookies signed on time, my ultimatum worked." Wayne, the ultimatum wouldn't have mattered. Until the NFL sets a rookie payscale, there are always going to be rookie holdouts.

Nice job Armando.

Looks like that fat ass hack Len Pasquarelli "broke" the news on ESPN. As usual, the "world wide leader" takes credit for real sports columnists. Douchebags.

But we know it was you, Armando.

And the real deal is right. Wayne's ultimatums are futile. First round picks are always going to be the last guys signed and the higher the pick, the longer the wait. This isn't Blockbuster. It's the NFL. Jeeze.

Thanks for the quick update man. You do a good job of posting the most recent updates on the fins. Some others who leave comments are rude and can't appreciate the work you do, but you are truly one of the best covering the Dolphins. Keep up the good work

Armando,
Good job on the scoop. Yo no se porque los gentes aqui hablan mentiras diciendo que tu no sabes nada. Y el trabajo que haces es mierda. Eso no lo creo. Again good job, no matter what alot of these guys say about you.

What. You don't speak spanish? This is the Miami Herald, right? Keep swimming. :-)

I was starting to think he was going to hold out for a few more days.
But I have to tip my hat to the Fins for drafting a group of players that are already showing a serious commitment for the team by getting their butts into camp on time.
If we had picked Quinn we'd all be talking about another year with another holdout from the number one pick.

What scoop?

Ginn Jr., Dolphins agree to deal

Len scooped by minutes over a Dolphins beat guy. Geez.

Armando, I saw the Lenny posted a couple of sentences a couple of minutes before you.

But you had the length of the deal and he had nothing. You had depth to your post and he had none.

You did a better job than he did in my estimation and you certainly kicked every local guy's ass on this. Even the guy at your own paper was lagging behind and still doesn't have the length of the contract in his story. And he works with you!

Good job, big boy.

Way to go, Wayne!

Five days ago Armando posted a headline about how Wayne's position was 'bad negotiating.' A few minutes later Beck signed and Armando rushed to change the headline to read, 'Beck Signs...etc.'

Now, before the deadline, Ginn signs and everyone is congratulating Armando? Oh, O.K., hey Armando, congratulations! For being WRONG.

Wayne bluffed; everybody folded - end of game. Wayne wins. Dolphins win. Fans win. Everybody signed.

Next year, Wayne doesn't have to play the same game. He can use another tactic. So, in short, you're wrong, but congratulations! Good Job!

Why are their so many friggin' haters on here? The guy is doing a great job for us and the last a-hole starts to rip him?

I appreciate this blog. It's entertaining and informative. And by reading the comments from the fans, it shows me how stupid some of us are.

Culpepper....Quinn

There I said it!!! hahahaha

Anyway...holdouts are bad for the commraderie (sp) of the team. They need time to gel, and that was evident with Brown and Allen. Brown STILL isn't the player he should be.

Hopefully, this is the year for some greatness for this team..

GO PHINS!!!

And Where's Brady Quinn unsingned with the Browns and primed for a long holdout, while Beck is in learning the offense now.

Go phins

Armando, I think you may be missing something in evaluating Wayne's ultimatum.

The deadline worked. And not necessarily because it intimidated Ginn or his agent. It was a directive, not a negotiating ploy.

It tells the front office that the better get the pick into camp. That might lead to some financial concessions, but the options in the rookie contracts are relatively minor. The basic parameters don't vary so much. But the weeks lost in camp can damage an entire season.

Wayne set the tone and the organization (the GM AND the players) got it done. Looks good to me.

I think it is great Ginn Jr signed regardless of his motivation. With seasons we have has it is just good to see players motivated to play and show up.
Actualy if he can turn and pivot and run like hell it bodes even better that he will be here for camp. In colege he beat 1 guy with 4.3 speed and 5 with 4.9 speed. I hope he can do as well against 5 guys with 4.3 speed and 6 with 4.5 speed. Like a bad marriage seperation, seperation, seperation.
Good job Armando

Armando is not a turd, he's a reporter trying to do his job. I might be the first to needle him about grammar, but that's just in fun and he's a good sport about it. You on the other hand gave your name as turd, only backwards, so to you turd, this Bronx cheer. Why don't you go back to the Jets board ya prick.

The mark of a shrewed business man is getting desired results.

Getting ginn in camp signed and ready was probably the desired goal. This goal was achieved even with doubting skeptics not having faith in WH's methods.

Credit should be given when its due.
Not continued second guessing when many opinions were wrong.

Some should have the jewels to own up and admit they were wrong.

GO FINS!!
