No Gerard Warren for the Dolphins

ESPN.com is reporting that Denver Broncos defensive tackle Gerard Warren is on the trade block and one of the teams that has been in conversation with the Broncos about the former first-round pick is Miami.

That website is reporting the Broncos also reached out to Washington and New Orleans, among others.

THIS website is reporting the Dolphins ain't interested.

The Dolphins are interested in adding some depth along the defensive line as GM Randy Mueller (He's doing a great job, by the way) noted in an interview with the CBS-4 broadcast crew during Saturday's game against Jacksonville.

But Warren, a former University of Florida standout, has pretty much been a one-gap defender his entire career and that apparently is not what the Dolphins are looking for right now -- particularly since Warren hasn't exactly lived up to expectation in Cleveland or Denver.

One thing I would say is the Dolphins are hoping guys like Rodrique Wright, Akbar Gbaja-Biamila or somebody else comes on soon because the team needs that to make up for the loss of Kevin Carter and David Bowens this offseason.

Your thoughts?

Oh, almost forget: You guys did a terrific job yesterday making this the Herald's most popular blog. In the expectation that you can make it two days in a row, I leave you with this thought -- Daunte Culpepper.

Discuss.

I just watched the playback of the game this afternoon on the NFL Net and I was quite impressed with the D-Line in the first half with the starters and primary backups. Considering we were short 4 starters that create pressure or can blitz, I felt like we put some good heat on Leftwich. In back to back series we had a sack by Roth, a Sack by Rod Wright and a pressure by Wright. If it weren't for a flag, that hit that Holliday delivered would have been a sack too. That's good pressure for just a straight up rush with no special gadgets or blitzes. I'm excited about this defense once it's at full strength!! At least we have half a team.

Good blog as always. I'll trust yor opinion that the Dolphins ain't interested.

I was googling something else when I came across a great 10 year old article by Dave Barry about Dolphins training camp and the beginning of the season. You're mentioned a few times, Armando. It's at http://www.davebarry.com/gg/marino.htm . If you read it and don't smile a few times, then you probably are dead and/or a Jets fan.

"I leave you with this thought -- Daunte Culpepper."

Just when I was trying to forget ... the guy is history, a bad dream that shouldn't recur any more. He took the team for a ride, but hey, he was asked to hop on the bus by another guy that took the team for a ride. There has to be a gunny sack full of lessons to be learned from the last few years.

For the first time in many years, I am getting some enthusiasm back for this team. They are moving people forward that are making it a sport franchise that the whole family can follow, as opposed to teams that employ people that trigger parental control devices.

I still am shaking my head about the fans that screamed at RanCam for skipping BQ for Ginn and Beck, both of whom signed for less than the self-proclaimed Mr. QB from ND. They also showed that they can play football at the NFL level in the first exhibition game, with the reverberations of the naysayers still in the air.

What I really don't understand is this fixation with Cpep. He is gone. I wish he and Saban had never been here ... but, there is a silver lining in each dark cloud. It is a lot easier to appreciate what we now have. Granted, we are talking about potential rather than proven performance, but it is pretty obvious that the future lumps that will have to be taken with the gravy will not be ruined by a cast of prima donnas ruining the taste.

You're right Armando ... and you should have left us with another thought as well.

We hate Nick Saban.

Armando,

I think you're relishing your role as a puppet master, aren't you? You LOVE to see the masses get stirred up in a FRENZY like sharks feeding on a bloody carcass in the ocean with this whole Daunte name dropping thing. Lets see if it works...

On to Gerard Warren. I'm very glad to hear that THIS WEBSITE is reporting that the Phins aren't interested. In the 42 or so years of Dolphins history, how many times did "we" bring in a defensive player that we didn't draft or sign out of college that made a HUGE impact. When I say huge impact, I mean he either maintained his status or became an elite defender in the league. I'm sure there are at least a couple, but I can't think of ONE right now. Most of our best players we're HOME GROWN, scouted & drafted. In my opinion, that is the only way you're going to get better. Sure, you need a solid veteran presence, but Gerard Warren should be wearing a shirt that says BUST all over it.

Lets give the young guys a shot. We have an excellent core here with Wright, Fifita, Roth, Soliai, & Vickerson. Those guys, mixed in with the veterans are going to be good. Lets not screw it up by bringing in some washed up, busted SCRUB.

My final thoughts on Dante Culpepper. I hope he does well with the Raiders. If he lights it up with them, and becomes MVP of the league, good for him. He still isn't what Miami needs right now. Beck, or maybe some other young QB will be the future of the Dolphins, and Culpepper is not the guy you want teaching a young QB.

I liked Culpepper up until his rants to the media. Seemed childish and selfish. Besides that character flaw, I don't think he will ever be a true student of the game and relies on his physical gifts more than reading defenses. That won't work in the system Cam is installing, and it won't help bring up the next franchise QB in Miami.

Culpepper, I wish him luck. But I know he didn't fit here as soon as Cam was named HC/OC.

i agree that our line is better home grown scouted talent.. the core w/ got will probably (hopefully) be the best if not top 3 in the league for d-lines. no need to go away for talent its all right here. as for C-pep... no comment

Duante you say!!!!! LOL you crazy Armando , but I bet this is another #1 blog today!!

First let me say I too think we don't need the washed up DT!!! We need to be searching for some O linemen!!! What I'm seeing is the start of last season all over again. Only difference this head coach is so smooth and has fooled so many fans into thinking he really can turn our offense around with Green and some rookies!!!!

I hope he can , but I just don't see it happening!! What will be very interesting to see is going to be when Trent cannot perform behind this line and has the same start as Duante, what will his supports say then?? Will Cam still be right ?? His best acquisition this offseason is on Defense and he let our division rivals aquire 4 pretty good rec. So you tell me to just trust Cam and Randy on all these questionable decisions........naw you trust him, I just hope we get a real front office in here SOON!!!!!

Why use a draft pick to get a 37yr old QB??? Why not use a pick to get a good O lineman?? Why guarantee 20 million to a linebacker on the down stroke, but not be willing to guarantee some money for the offensive players we need???

Say what you will , but I don't just follow blindly behind anyone!!! The majority of the decisions this front office is making are very questionable!!!

These are my thoughts and thats just the way I see it!!!!

LOL. No comments from me on Daunte anymore, yesterday was brutal. Let the young DT'S into the lineup and save all of our draft picks so we can have another great draft next year. I'm really surprised at the number of possible starters Cam and Randy landed this year and I'm extremely impressed with them finding wright in the sevnth round.

Saban found Wright last year. Not Cam, just lucky to have him on the roster!!!!

j dizzle: NYScott is referring to Abe Wright who was drafted this year in the 7th round...not Rodrique Wright who was drafted by the previous regime. Hopefully both players will go on to have great seasons this year and beyond.

Yo Armando, another good story; I think the closer we get to the season, the better your articles have been. There must be a connection... I notice you haven't had much to say about how you think the team will fare this year. I think a wild card berth is within reach. I'm not trying to pin you down or asking for predictions or anything, just curious how you feel about their chances this year.
Just wanted to give a shout out to you and the Dolphins. What a relief to win that game. Now I got bragging rights with all the jagwad fans here for the next year.

lol CJ its funny how I heard a lot of woofing and chatter before the game, but then on Monday they made themselves scarce. Yeah we played lousy and should have lost the game maybe, but we came from behind to win which bodes well for future games, I think. The Dolphins just might get used to winning. Hey, they might even like it. I say we're gonna surprise a lot of teams this year, they won't even see us coming. I love this under-the-radar shit.

As usual Armando you are an idiot.
They need someone to step up for kevin Carter.
Matt Roth's play has allowed the fins to dump an overinflated salary. Roth was a second round pick and will fill the void but as usual your over inflated dome is incorrect. I wonder who you have pictures of to keep your job. I am sure your knowledge of sports is as lacking as your literary talents. Translated for the meathead in you..YOU SUCK

NYScott, is that your real name, dufus? You embarrass Dolphin fans everywhere with your ugly rants. Think Jets.

Yes, once more, Daunte is gonna put you fairweather fans to shame this year.

Dolphins need offensive line help. Thats the obvious priority. But a quality backup defensive end would be good.

j dizzle...I couldn't disagree more!

I think Cam and Ran have done an EXCELLENT job in the offseason picking up talent. At the beginning I was hoping we'd get D. Stallworth, and we ended up losing him to the Patsies, but in hindsight I'm glad. I think not having an established 3rd will help Hagan and Ginn get on the field and develop.

I think adding Porter was an OUTSTANDING move. Sure he's on the down stroke, but he can still play at a high enough level to garner game planning by the other team. With him opposite JT one of the two will be racking up some sacks. Time will tell on this one.

I also like the FA additions of Liewinski, Worrell, and the host of TE's we've signed. I would be willing to bet the FORE THOUGHT and growth concepts CAM/RAN are implementing will pay big dividends down the road. Getting rid of Randy, I THINK, was more for the growth of other team leaders. In my eyes I see them weeding it down to where Beck will eventually be the leader of the offense without question. CC, Booker, Ronnie, Hagan, and Ginn are all soft spoken. Randy was NOT. This will allow Green and soon Beck to be the unquestioned leaders.

There is a science to building the psyche of a team...and I'm banking on Cam and Ran knowing a whole lot more than any of us.

Peace

Great comments JinVA

I too hope this plan works its just we've been misled in the past and I plan on questioning every move by every coach for the Dolphins from now on until I see something different and right now I don't , well maybe a little. I will say this Cam did a good job in the draft this year, but I think he should've made a bigger splash in free agency on the offensive side!! All in all I hope Cam and Randy prove me to be a dumbass blogger and all these moves come together!!!!

im really eager to see all this come together and give the dolfan faithful something exciting to watch and cheer for. i agree that it would have been nice to see a bigger splash on offense but i give them the benifit of the doubt. cant wait for the KC game this thursday

I don't think Warren brings much to the table. Unless of course you're talking about the dinner table! It's kind of telling that Denver would trade for Wilkenson and without landing him they would still trade Warren. The guy must not be showing much.

I opted out of the Culpepper debate. He's gone, he does not fit Cameron's system and he may still not be healthy. It was time to move on. I wish him well but I truely believe he will never take a team to the promised land. I think it's time we all moved on also.

Armando I have a question , Why do you leave your articles posted so long ??? The one about Drew has been there for almost a week and the one about Jason Allen was there forever is there a time limit you have to leave them up or do you just not have anything new to create an article on??? Just a question buddy.

Hey Jed! Yes, my parents named me NYScott. Dufus? LOL! WHAT, did you just get done watching Leave it to Beaver? Nice 50's putdown from a guy who calls himself (come listen to a story bout a man named)JED. I embarrass Dolphin fans by sticking up for our team against moronic Jets fans who infest our blog? If you were a real fan you would stick up for our team too. You would also understand my "ugly" rants(whatever that means) but you are not a real fan. You call us fairweather fans and tell us how a guy from some other team will put us to shame? Does that make any sense at all? PS Let it go JED. I don't know what I did to you to make you so mad but calling someone names while you sit behind the soft glow of your computer does not make you a man,it's just sad.

J dizzle: I have complained to the herald internet people, through my boss, that the stories stay up too long despite the fact I have written other stuff on the team. They hide the new stuff and keep the old stuff up. That is hopefully going to be ironed out.

Meanwhile, I congratulate you all again today for making this blog the most visited at the herald for the second day in a row.

Here are the top three:

I will be touching on a very sensitive subject for tomorrow so come back by.

Hey Anonymous, Armando is not an idiot. He clearly said the Dolphins need to make up for the loss of Bowens and Carter. They need depth.

You also need depth because your brain is full of crap.

Hmm big word for a malcontent like yourself. i will pause while you look up the word...
They have depth currently there are 9 linemen. 9 like the number of illigitemate children in your inbred family.
But i am sure Armondo appreciates the butt kiss.
Bama will be 5-5 and St. Nicky will run to another opportunity.
But have a nice day.

Yea he does not fit CAMS's plan, but you guys know as well as I know that if it wasn't for bad luck the Phin's would have no luck at all. We friggin play the Raiders this year, and we should be their asses...but this type of shit always bites us in the ass!!!!
