Your thoughts on tonight's DOLPHINS game

(Pregame Update)

KANSAS CITY -- The Dolphins are making some changes on the starting offensive line this evening.

Rex Hadnot will move from starting left gaurd to right guard. Drew Mormino is benched. Chris Liwienski, who did not start last week, will start at left gaurd tonight.

The constant changes along the offensive line is the reason the following item is important to Miami fans:

The Newark Star-Ledger in New Jersey is reporting the Jets have no intention of dumping Pete Kendall.

As I've stated several times this preseason in columns and on this weblog, I know the Dolphins would love to have an opportunity to acquire Kendall if he is released by New York.

Miami GM Randy Mueller has a history with Kendall and the Dolphins have a definite need to upgrade at guard -- especially with a proven veteran who can stabilize an unstable situation.

Unfortunately, Newsday's source tells the paper that Kendall is still a good player and the Jets aren't in the habit of dumping good players. There are two ways to see this:

1. Believe it at face value because Newsday's beat writer has a reputation for getting things right.

2. Take it with a grain of salt because New York Jets sources have a habit of using the papers to suit their agendas. And one obvious agenda is to put out the idea Kendall is staying so he'll stop holding almost-daily updates with the press about his desire to get out.

This much is clear: Kendall played well last week and it makes no sense that he would remain with the second unit, especially while he's making $1.7 million in base salary. And he definitely is not taking a pay cut.

Anyway, at the risk of leading today's conversation toward the Kennedy assassination or the truth behind Area 51, I open the floor for comments about tonight's game.

I want to know:

*How many of you believe the OL will actually show improvement and how many think the players and Cam Cameron are feeding us a fat slice of headcheese when they promise things will get better.

*How many of you are losing patience (already) with Trent Green?

*How many of you are going to drink more than a six-pack during the game?

*How many of you expect to report for work Friday with a hangover?

*How many of you still will be tuned in when John Beck enters the game in the third quarter, realizing there are no plans to play Beck this season?

*As you know, these two teams made a trade in 2005 that sent CB Patrick Surtain and a draft pick that turned into LB Boomer Grigsby to KC for a draft pick that turned out to be DE Matt Roth and another that turned out to be T Anthony Alabi. Who got the better of that deal?

*And finally .... Daunte Culpepper. No question. Just Daunte Culpepper.

I'll be back before the game with updates and then you should leave your halftime and post-game comments here also.

Ready? Blog.

So many questions - Here some thoughts: a) Roth/Alabi is the better End of the deal; b) We will see improvement all over the place - OK I may be reaching :-) c) No beer, no hangover just exitement and coffee d) Beck - yes I would like to see him play this season, according all the posts in the news it looks like he can be the real deal even early on e) Dante - we will wait and see ----- I'm still hoping we get help for the OL from the Jets. ---- ups no politics or thoughts about history - have a nice day

Lots of questions, I see. Well let's get to it.

- Offensive line will show some improvement. KC's D-Line isn't as nearly as fearsome's as Jacksonville's.

- No beer for me. Haven't had a beer in about three months.

- Well, since I'm not having beer, there won't be any hangover.

- I haven't lost my patience with Trent Green, it's still too early. Ask me when Week 4 rolls around.

- Yes, I still want too see John Beck, even though he may not play at all in the regular season. How can you not want too see the future of the franchise?

- I hate giving Saban credit for anything these days, but I'll give the devil his due. We got the better of that Surtain deal. By the way, did you know Saban loves co.... err... I mean roosters.

- Daunte Culpepper? Who cares?!!? That guy is Oakland's problem now. In fact he may not even be their starter on Opening Day. Josh McCown and Andrew Walter have looked way better than Daunte at this point. Man, talk about a fall from grace. I have a feeling that it's only going to get worse. He should've taken the three year deal with Jacksonville.

If you're not down with that, I'VE GOT TWO WORDS FOR YA..... GO FINS!!!!!

Mando

been in Miyami since 1970, still rememer the dadeland shooting in 1980, survived the 80's!

not sure about T Green as he has got to be still a little rattled, especially behind this O line.

If the season starts out say 2 & 4, do we look to Beck to gain first year experience given he is 26?

curious the % of people that drink or do drugs, legal or illegal, at least 4 or more days a week?

keep up the good work.

Well let me see

I think the O line may show some improvement!!!

I never had patience for Green. I will say this I told you guys this wasn't a open QB competition!!!!Why do you think Cleo doesn't get to play the entire first two quarters!?!?

I'm going to be doing some HEAVY drinking, can anybody say pass the
Courvoisier !!! And no work for me tomorrow taking a much needed day OFF!!!

I still will be tuned in to see what Beck is looking like.

And of course we got the better end of the Surtain deal!!!

And drum roll please.................Duante Culpepper , well .......I'm not gonna start it up we're talking about our boys today the FINS!!!!
But maybe later we'll get it crunk up!!!!

The O-Line will improve, simply because it cant get any worst.
-now that u mention it, it would be great to drink a few beers tonight.
-i have kids so no hangover
-Fins have taught me true patience after living through the past few seasons, so Trent is still my guy unless he gets his head bumped again.
-I cant wait to see Beck. Its one of the highlighs of the game.
-The Surtain deal sucks so far if you ask me. Neither team made out too well with it.
-Screw Daunte

1) By the odds, the line should look better - it would be hard for them to look worse. That said, KC's front is not as fearsome as Jacksonville's. We need to find out who our starters really are tonight and stick with them from here.

2) No. The guy just got here. Give him a chance. We gave Fiedler how long? I saw more patience with Feeley for crying out loud....

3) I may have a couple of beers - hopefully for enjoyment, not to numb the pain.

4) No way, can't do that.

5) I'm particularly looking forward to watching Beck. That's a good part of why I tune in - to see the future. I really like watching the rookies or UFA's to see who will make an impact. Also really looking forward to seeing something from Ginn and Booker.

6) Who cares. He isn't here. My only concern with Daunte is if he plays when we meet the Raiders. If so, I hope he offers up a whole lot of sacks and little else. Just like last year.

Enjoy the game tonight Dolphin Fans!

*How many of you believe the OL will actually show improvement and how many think the players and Cam Cameron are feeding us a fat slice of headcheese when they promise things will get better.

The O-Line right now is like the pieces of a puzzle….Hudson Houck is moving them around and seeing if the fit perfectly in place….he’s in the trial by error or actually, trial by fire stage. I agree with the previous poster that the OL is a work in progress, and they will progress and show improvement. Ronnie Brown was still able to get 1000 yards behind a hodge-podge line last year, and I think we’re better than last year.

*How many of you are losing patience (already) with Trent Green?

How can anyone have possibly lost patience with Trent Green?? We haven’t seen anything yet that would allow us to make a determination either way. The way I see it is that we have a smart, pro-bowl caliber QB at the helm with a good arm. We haven’t had anybody as good as him line up at QB since Marino….and I’m in no way shape or form comparing Green to Marino, but lets face it, the level of talent at the QB position since Marino left has been paltry at best. Fiedler has some serious luck on his side, not to mention, Ricky Williams gaining 1800 yards.

*How many of you are going to drink more than a six-pack during the game?

No drinking for me, its preseason….I drink during the REAL games.

*How many of you expect to report for work Friday with a hangover?

I’ll be at work bright and early as usual….its a Friday, so it’s a wasted day anyway.

*How many of you still will be tuned in when John Beck enters the game in the third quarter, realizing there are no plans to play Beck this season?

Armando, you can say that there are no plans to play Beck this season. I can assure you that until Marino went down with his Achilles injury in the early nineties, there were no plans to play Scott Mitchell or Doug Pederson either, but guess what….they played. Anything can happen and I’ll be looking forward to see if Beck has the gun that can get the ball downfield to a streaking Ted Ginn Jr.

Thanks to Hard Knocks on HBO, I’ve learned that Boomer Grigsby is now trying to “make” the team as a fullback. Surtain’s ability is declining. I’d say we got the better deal cause Roth is a rising star and Alabi is just starting to contribute.

*And finally .... Daunte Culpepper. No question. Just Daunte Culpepper.

I’m done with the Daunte Culpepper discussion. He is not here and he is irrelevant until he is proclaimed as the starter against Miami during the regular season when Miami plays Oakland.

On a final note, Armando, I know you’re thrilled with the amount of hits and posts your blog received yesterday, but I’m actually begging you to do your best to keep this a football blog. We all have our political views, but they don’t belong here. I come here to escape that. You have the power to block or remove posts and I ask you to please be vigilant and keep this as a place to discuss Dolphins football.

Gracias hermano

never a bad reason to drink is the attitude people gotta have to drink more than a six pack for a pre-season game. just give me a good burrito from Moes and i'll be happy.

i think if the two guards and center struggle this week then people can start sounding alarms. to have sounded them after struggling against stroud and henderson was crazy. those guys make 9 out of 10 interior lines look bad. they are just really good and really big to go along with it.

and as far as the 9/11 stuff. read some of the interviews that occcured right after the towers came down or watch them online. and watch footage of the towers coming down in slow mo. constant talk of explosions in the lower levels in the interviews and its visible in the footage. did the rogue parts of the government set it all up? i got no clue, but hard for me not to believe those buildings had some premeditated help in falling once u consider the footage and the interviews with the firefighters especially.

Daunte Culpepper again?

Aramando, are you trying to make us boys down at Twist jealous again or are you just being a bad, irreverent, little boy deserving of a spanking by yours truly.

Now, not all of us can boast the intimate relationship with Daunte that you possessed. But please some modesty. I've had my share of some very successful men-- a few, celebrities, I might add-- but i don't go advertising it on my scalp the way you do.

My gosh, what will Daunte's wife think? Aren't YOU worried about your reputation? The football beat can be very homophobic.

But then again, maybe you like it rough.

Looking forward to seeing you again soon at Twist: South Beach's Finest Boys Only Club.

Duante is going to end up in Atlanta next year , and I think Trent isn't going to make it past week 3!!!

I have a good debate but its not about the FINS , but no one is really making any comments today any way.

How many of you out there think JaMarcus Russell will end up in next years Draft , because I think deep down inside he really doesn't want to play for Oakland????

Trent might surprise you guys yet. We will see, though, and soon. I look for Ronnie to try a little harder tonight, but a lot of that depends on our undependable O line.
Wouldn't it be nice if our receivers gave somebody some trouble? Maybe Sutton and Anderson can reach over the little guys on the KC squad. I hope Mauia gets to carry a couple, next to Chatman, I like him the most at RB. Teddy Jr. busts one tonight... don't know, just have a feeling.

1) The OL will get better once they return Shelton to RG and move Hadnot to LG. This nonsense of Mormino, who can't play, being with the first teamers is the fat slice of headcheese when they promise things will get better.

2) If Green lays an egg tonight, let the panic begin. I KNOW it is only preseason, but you still gotta hit your passes. For a veteran of his stature, he has looked dreadful in camp this far.

Beer count for me will be 1-2. That's all. I gotta work in the morning!

No hangover planned.

I will be there to watch Beck. He may just be the most impressive QB in camp thus far.

KC fleeced MIA in the Surtain deal. Roth is a decent player, but Surtain was elite. Think where the defense would be right now with Surtain.

As for Daunte, I still question the speed with which Cam dismissed Daunte. I ask again: Why not let Daunte and Green compete?

I'm sure there will be improvements, I'm not sure we will recognize them. This is preason with a new very smart coach, he will be testing and looking for things that may have nothing to do with the outcome of the game.

I believe we need to give Cam a chance to do things his way and not put everything under the microscope (yet).

Certainly nobody on this board - moderator included know more about coaching than a head coach in the NFL...

Hey Armando, what are your thoughts on the recent immigration debate. Just wondering...

4:44 PM

the talent isn't there on the OL. We still need 1-2 more good players to make it a championship level OL. Shelton needs to be a backup at best...Lewinski is a career backup...nothing more...same thing goes for Rosenthal...Hadnot is an average player that might be better with better talent around him. Carey is sound and can hold down a spot...but i'd rather see him at RT...Alabi doesn't look like much more than a backup...the rookies? who the hell knows yet...but i'll give Satelle and Mormino a pass until I see them play for awhile. Like I said...we need a couple more big dogs guarding the front lawn before this OL can truly take this team to a championship.

I'm an Iowa fan, and Roth could be great...we'll see how he holds up physically. I really thought he'd be more of a DE with his size. Hopefully the steriods are good ones...just kidding. Don't know about Alabi yet, but he looks like a backup so far.

We should've never picked up Daunte to begin with.

Saban seemed to have confidence issues and always wanted to control everything to do whatever he could not to fail. I actually thought it was a great signing for a headcoach when they did it. I'm really surprised it turned out the way it did.

Anyone who judges ANY player after 1 preseason game is nuts. I would like to see Beck play, but i'm comfortable letting him see some games from the sideline and get tutored by Green for awhile before he steps in. It looks like they've set up the perfect situation at QB because you still have Lemon who has been steady when he's been given the chance.

Okay...
I believe there will be improvement in the OL. I think with the last game changes will be made to balance and define the OL allow better pass and run protection. I do however, think that Cameron is not wanting the team to show itself completely. I think he wants to keep the players heads in the game, and keep the hype from the sports columnists from doing as they did last year by calling them SB caliber.

I wouldn't mind a tall cool beer, since I have one every six to eight months.

Never had a hang over.

Trent Green will show more of who he is, and that will be based on the performance of the OL and his receivers.

Beck... why not? We need to know who is the right person to run each position. Who knows... he may be the man for QB.

Saban... deserves no credit... his mistakes have even been felt in the beating of our defense.

Culpepper... let him die in your news as he died on the field.

We wasted the 9th pick of the draft on a damn punt returner who averaged 1.5 yards???? I saw him actually losing yardage from where he caught it by running away from the coverage (except they seemed to run as faster than he could. What a wasted pick!

anonymous...really. I'm not 100% confident on the Ginn pick yet either, but punting isn't something you always get a lot of yards at...it's hit or miss, but the hits are big ones..That said, he needs to chill with the running backwards to try to create room. Rook mistake.

Anyway, I thought Brown and Chatman looked good, but thought Brown shoulda busted a few that he got caught on. Green scares me.

And hereeeeeee the answers - 1)The Dolphins, offensive line will continue to improve. I believe by the sixth week of the regular, they will be a solid unit. 2) I agree with anonymus 1, Roth/Alabi is the better end of the deal. 3) If healthy, Trent Green will be the starting quarterback. If not, then Mr. Cleo will provide the answers to the situation. 4)Beck will continue to improve this season. I look for him to challenge for the starting quarterback in 2008. 5) Daunte Culpepper will have a big year with the Oakland Raiders.
