Jesse Chatman well enough to start after all

Jesse Chatman's apparent miraculous recovery from his ankle injury is such that he will indeed start against the Steelers tonight.

As I reported earlier this afternoon, Chatman was all but assured he'd be a backup for this game behind Ricky Williams when he started feeling significantly better. Well, he's good enough that he's going out there for the Dolphins first.

Williams, active and ready to go, is nonetheless expected to get playing time tonight. He is active.

Donnie Spragan will start for Derrick Pope, who missed part of last week with an unspecified illness that caused him to go to the hospital.

It is raining cats and dogs here this evening. The field has been covered but I don't think that will help much during the game because it doesn't look like it's going to stop anytime soon.

I will be blogging live during the game through at least the third quarter. Join me in the comments section for that.

Its raining, N E thing can happen!!!! This is the night. Joey gets payback and lives up to his money and Ricky runs like he used to. He can run in bad weather. 224 yards against Buffalo in the blizzard. Lets go FINS!!!!

the rain isnt a factor for either of the teams, but it hink the dolphins could a good most of their player wear gripgloves

I wish I could tell you I know what team this benefits more but I haven't seen John Beck play in the rain so I have no idea if he's a good wet ball QB.

I wouldn't bet on Cobbs doing too much. Ricky should get the carries Jesse Chatman does not. Of course, if Chatman re-injures his ankle, everything changes.

b-boy if you want to be a writer, you will have to learn to write in grammatically correct English ALL the time, not like Armando who writes correctly on occasion, or perhaps by accident. You must be wondering then well how did he get this writer job to begin with. We all wonder that, sometimes you just get lucky. To increase your chances, learn to write like the great authors of classic literature. Go for it and good luck too you.

Thanks Armando. Good stuff. You've kept me on top of the starting dilemna and the game delay. You've beaten ESPN on both counts.

Brett, I am POSITIVE that I am sitting in a press box and there are no players on the field.

The Dolphins are telling me Jesse Chatman will start. This comes from Cam Cameron to the PR department to me.

Why would they risk a greater injury to Chatman by starting him? A wet turf is the last thing a player with a bum ankle needs? Are they still looking at a 8:50pm start ?

Plus are the Dolphins completely sold on Cobbs that they release Gado instead? If Cobbs was so good, wouldn't he get some carries as well? Gado at least played some with Green Bay and word is he's very smart (med student, ie Robert Smith, Vikings) so why not keep him, dump Cobbs, at least Gado could play tonight !?

Guess I shouldn't get my hopes too high about Ginn running one back.

Mando, despite the rain limiting the passing game, does the lack of Polamalu open up the passing game a little more for Beck? Does a lack of Holmes have THAT much of an effect on the Steelers?

I don't claim be be a writer. I do however claim to know that to have success in anything, your best chance at having success is to do it well. Sometimes a completely incompetent person gets luckly and slips through the cracks, like George Bush, but generally speaking, mastering your chosen craft gives you the best chance for success. Just because a professional writer has had some success without mastering 6th grade grammer, doesn't mean it's a wise path to follow.

I'm a lifetime Dolphins fan in Virginia, and since I don't have cable TV and radio coverage is spotty, your blog coupled with live updates on nfl.com is all I have to piece together tonight's game. I also listen to Darlington's podcast every Sunday morning during workouts, so I get to hear your reports there as well. Thanks again, and stay dry tonight!

Nice sack by Quentin Moses! I like to think of him as our "11th Draft Pick."

nice play by kornheiser, first he bashes the dolphins then immediately back tracks and says they're the best 0-10 team b/c they've lost 5 games by 3 points
