Salguero on the radio tonight 10-midnight

Not a ton going on right now with the Fins other than they continue preparing for the most important draft perhaps of their history.

Still think it'll be either Chris Long or Jake Long with the Matt Ryan rumors simply a smoke screen. On the free agency front I am puzzled why receiver D.J. Hackett hasn't been on Miami's radar.

I doubt Hackett would be a high-priced acquisition. More like a $3 million guaranteed money type of guy. And even at 6-2 and 208 pounds he has deep threat ability, having turned 10 percent of his catches the past three years into plays averaging 31.5 yards. I know the guy had some injury issues, but didn't Justin Smiley and Jason Ferguson miss most of parts of last season on injured reserve? And the Dolphins went after them.

Anyway, we can talk about all of that and more on my radio show this evening.

I will be on 790 The Ticket from 10 to midnight and will be happy to talk with you if you call in. If you're not in South Florida you can listen via the computer by going to 790theticket.com and listening live there.

If you want to call and discuss something, it's a toll-free call at 1-888-790-3776.

Wow, the world is indeed shrinking isn't it?

Yes to D.J. Hackett ,And maybe glasses for Hagan, We should sign Hadnot and still some decent tackles out there.

I am very surprised he has not been reached by the dolphins. I had him in fantasy last year and when healthy he was a complete stud. I mean we should bring him in for some healthy competition. One thing I will tell you is he is better than Ernest Wilford.

WELL MANDO, I THINK THE REASON WHY DJ HAS NOT BEEN REACHED BY THE FINS IS, FOR EVERY 5 CATCHES HE MAKES, THATS THREE GAMES HE MISSES. THAT GUYYYYYY IS ALWAYSSSSS HURT. HIS CAREER SPEAKS FOR IT SELF. FORGET ALL THESE WASH UP HAS BEENS!! LETS DRAFT SOME YOUNG BLOOD!!!!

Why did we take that Smiley dude then? Thats an O-Lineman with a history of injuries, including most of last year.

What about Bryant Johnson??? He is still out there, still very young...does anyone beside me think that he is a WR waiting to break out after being stuck behind Boldin and Fitz?? He is a big guy with decent speed....Ginn, Wilford and Johnson would not be a bad line-up.

I am also Larry in Nevada and I want to call in to your radio show. I'm going to use the name Larry in Vegas, so that other Larry in Vegas needs to find a different name.

Look at the money Bernard Berrian and Javon Walker got. My guess is that those deals screwed with teams looking to sign Hackett and Johnson at "reasonable" prices. I think we have better things to spend our money on anyways. Remember who we have throwing the ball to these guys too. It doesn't make much sense to have about $10 million wrapped up in the QB position and then $10-20 million wrapped up in one WR.

fins should sign Bryant, Blackstock and Hadnot if they can all be had for back up money which they all are but they give great depth and potential while draft picks, free agents and practice squad players develop and build over the next three years.

What about Daryl? And Daryl?

LOL

You guys kill me.

DJ would be worth a look. As would Bryant Johnson. They would both be upgrades over Hagan. However, to the guy who said DJ is better than Wilford...not fair...two different styles of players. DJ is a streaker. Wilford is a possesion guy with a big body. A redzone target. Think...Oronde Gadsden. DJ is actually probably too similar to Ginn. I'd rather have a RAC guy...which is why I have been saying we should explore options with the Cards on getting Fitzgerald. Yes I know he's expensive, but so will the #1 pick be! And Fitz is PROVEN not to mention still YOUNG.

Fitzgerald, Ginn, and Wilford would be stellar and there'd be time for Beck and whomever we draft to grow with them!

Or...the other thing I've been watching is to see if Marvin Harrison is cut. He would be a great mentor to Ginn and could teach him the finer points of running routes.

Youre an idiot.

This blog is for sports talk, not a love connection for you two Larrys. Get a room, or just go away theres no room for you two to banter back and forth about who the "real" Larry is.

On the football note. I have in great authority that gholsten will be picked at the number 2 spot. A rep was in Columbus yesterday and today. Some thought gholsten would be a good pick up for Miami, he has the same football mentality/intuition as Zach Thomas had, a little bigger though.

Smiley is not "an O-Lineman with a history of injuries, including most of last year."

He did miss the last seven games last year, but he never missed one game in his career before that.

IN fact oncew he started game nine his Rookie year in 2004, he started every game after that until he got hurt.

That really isn't a history of injury.

Bryant Johnson and Max Starks. Draft Jake Long

9:05 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree Max Starks would be a good addition to the O-line; you know they're looking to add guys with size. And Bryant Johnson on the outside. I watched a lot of Cardinal games last year. Johnson was impressive.

Jake Long OT is the Pick at #3 after a trade with Atlanta. They can have Ryan, we have a winner in Beck.

I don't know what is going on with my compurter then, can you tell me what he said about the draft or dj hackett?

11:16 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hes had a brief, very brief discussion with Drew Rossenhaus(spelling?). He talked about the browns longer than he has the Dolphins. He just finished, or is in the proccess of finishing the topic of the miami heat and how bad they suck, and that D Wade needs to rest and get himself healthy. So far nothing on Hackett or the draft.

11:20 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Nothing so far on the dolphins, thats crazy...but there are some cool jams playing.

11:32 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

He just said Miami should draft McFadden! thats absurd! And apparently hes not too fond of Matt Ryan, at all. He also thinks miami will not trade their pick bc it hasnt been done in 4 years...good stat mando. My question for you is did the team in the top spot have a 1-15 record and have so many gaping holes that its not even funny. It doesnt matter that it hasnt happened in 4 drafts.

11:44 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yea, mcfadden would be a foolish pick but I do agree with him about not trading the pick; the only team I can see doing that is ATL but that would only be done if miami needed a qb and made it know. I would still like to hear what he has to say about Hackett I think he could be our #1 and take some pressure off of ginn so he can be our deep threat. Draft Long!!!!

11:51 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm in S. Florida and I listend to Mando and I'm not understanding the posts on here.

First, he talked aobut how DeAngelo Hall isn't coming to the Dolphins. I know a lot of people on here have been saying he would be great for the Dolphins but Armando said the redskins or Oakland are the teams most active there.

So that was news to me.

Then he talked about the draft and he made a good point -- no trade in top seven picks since 2004 so its likely dolphins make the pick.

He said MCFadden is best player in the draft and if that's true, he should go No. 1. He also said Flacco is moving up into the first round because a lot of teams are onto him now.

rosenhaus explained how players are still interested in coming to the dolphins because team still has standing. Rosenhaus also said Jacksonville was also interested in Zach Thomas. It was interesting.

Oh yeah, there was a bunch of Heat stuff but you gotta expect that since it's an all around station. I enjoyed it in the 10 o'clock hour while I was driving.

By the way, Mando, I tried calling but your guys weren't answering the phone.

12:47 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Dam, I really wanted D-hall in Teal but I guess that's not gonna happen, Mcfadden shouldn't go number 1, unless it's a qb, the best player in the draft doesn't always go 1. I tried calling too but didn't get an answer either. I hope Miami takes Hackett. I don't see why the dolphins don't just draft Ryan and then trade his rights to a team that wants him. Worst case scenario we get a qb best case we get a Long and more picks. Sounds like a smart gambel to me, but I am a gambling man.

I can't believe this is what it has come to -- us rating Armando's radio show. Anyway, I'm game.

I listened here in SoFla and I thought it was very good. A lot better than some of the crap from other shows because Armando knows what he's talking about. I don't always agree with his OPINIONS but his facts are balls-on accurate.

If I had to rate it 1-10, I would give his show last night a 8. I don't give 10s unless I'm on the floor rolling or somebody says something totally incredible I didn't know.

Also, Armando if you read this: Get a freaking guy to answer the phone. I called and nobody answered.

JinVa, normally you have pretty good posts on here with some merrit to them, im a little disappointed that you bashed a guy for saying "Beck is not a winner". And then say much of nothing else.

Beck hasnt had enough time or the OLine to make a comment like hes a loser or winner. Given the new regeme thats down in Miami and the offseason program hes going to go through I say he has a pretty good chance to be a "winner".

Who knows what is going to transpire with the draft? It may frustrate the press, but I love that Parcells/Ireland aren't saying anything. I'm glad someone mentioned Vernon Gholston from Ohio State, I could see Parcells eyeing him. He would be a project converting to linebacker, as would Chris Long. Either would be great, but I like Chris' intensity and intelligence. He's a film freak. Kinda like getting Zach and Jason rolled into one. O-line needs help, and if we don't trade the pick, #1 money would be wisely invested in a LT (Jake Long), but there is a lot of lineman in this draft. Under no circumstance should we draft McFadden or a QB with that pick!

For the record, Armando was on for a time as a correspondent for ESPN. To be quite plain, Armando doesn't have the look for television. Armando is capable at times in the newspaper, when he sticks to reporting and doesn't overly-inject his opinions. On his blog and on the radio, it seems he's more free-wheeling with his opinions and his use of the language, which sometimes causes him trouble (at times, he says "you know" too much, or "you see"). I surmise that in the newspaper, Armando is working with editors who challenge his writing; on the radio and on the blog, it's Armando sans restraint.

Israel Guttierez, however, does look good when I've seen him on ESPN. I don't usually like his opinions, for me it doesn't seem he has enough experience. But that may be a function of his age and that "urban/tough" persona he gives off.

One other thing, Armando: You are the Dolphins writer, blogger, radio persona and self-proclaimed expert. Refrain from writing about other topics, you wrote a column the other day about the Heat and Pat Riley and you really seemed out of your element. The article was long, and you repeated the same hypothesis over and over. When I'm reading the paper in the morning, I want the straight facts, not a lot of circular language that is masquerading as intellectual argument. So, stick to what you know, please.

Good luck.

For someone that doesn't seem to like Armando much, Restrapo reads his crap in the newspaper, checks out his blog and his radio show.

No wonder you have opinions about Armando. Maybe if you get out of his jock strap you'd think about something else like, you know, sports.
