Changes along the defensive front

The Dolphins will soon announce the signing of defensive tackle Sam Rayburn, a five-year veteran who has played with San Francisco and the Eagles.

Rayburn is 6-3 and 303 out of Tulsa.

The reason he's with Miami now is that Vonnie Holliday is clearly not ready to play yet despite sounding an optimistic note on the possibility earlier this week. Add to that the fact Rodrique Wright is nursing some undisclosed injury that kept him out of practice today, and you now understand the need for a healthy body.

I'll have more details for you after practice.

By the way, Samson Satele did not practice today as he nurses a neck injury. Obviously Trent Green wasn't out there either. Rex Hadnot is working at center while Anthony Alabi is working at guard.

As for Miami's QB depth, receiver Marty Booker is expected to take some snaps there as Miami's No. 3.

Marty Booker at QB ??? Are they crazy??? Well I guess if he's #3 it really doesn't matter!!!

Hey Mando:
Is there a chance for Beck to take the starting job from Lemon?? Or is Cam not even entertaining that idea?? Are there any trade talks with the deadline fast approaching??

J dizzle, In cams last press conference he stated that Cleo won the #2 slot in the preseason. He said if beck had won it then, he would be the starter as of now. He also says and I quote "beck is just one play from the starter". You cant knock the guy for what he is doing. Cleo did win the job and he deserves his shot. As much as I wanna see what beck can do, I dont want him to get the job the same way cleo did.

Also dizzle, Booker was a star high school qb and played his first two years in college at the position before he voluntarily sqitched to qb. He actually has 2 nfl carrer td passes.

I'm officially off the bash Cam campaign!! I'm starting to like him a little its just I'm starting to think he needs a better mentor at GM!!!

I hope Lemon shines , but I also think its time for us to at least see Beck out there on a few series a game! We are already on route to having a very high pick in the draft and Cam needs to evaluate Beck in some real game situations!! The guy is already 27 how much more mature does he have to be?? I thought "fail fast foward" was Cam's philosophy!?!?!

Another change we ought to make: Trading Jason Taylor for whatever we can get.

There's no reason why JT should have to put up with yet another losing season in Miami. Same goes for ZT. They both deserve the chance to win a Super Bowl before it's too late. And we definitely need more draft picks.

Bout time im tired of teams thinking they can come infront of the dolphins and run the ball like our defense is soft we need someone who can step up and smack the ball carriers in the mouth like the dophins D use to do what ever happen to that smash mouth head bustin defense of the 90's its been a while since ive seen the dophins cause turnovers whats goin on D the offense seems to have it on track finally, now its your turn to claim what was your title for a long time as a hard hitten, turnover causen smashmouth just plain ole nasty and fast defense lets get it together and make it happen!

So what? Who gives a sh*t? Another
lame dead weight castoff! When the hell is someone gonna take charge?
Please stop referring to T.Green as
a mentor! He came here to be a starter, not a mentor. He done. He's outta here along w/ Scam & R.Mueller. Hopefully he will take Lemon & Leaf...I mean Beck w/ him. Hate to pop your guys bubble but, Beck is a BUST as well. If he was worthy..he'd be starting. This 07' year is the worst Dolphin memory I have ever had...as bad as I hated Wannsted...I despise this dude Scam-o-ron! My heart sunk back on that draft day with his 1st round pick. Right then & there I knew ONCE AGAIN we got stuck w/a SH*T head coach. Just read all the arrogant & outrageous predictions he made about this team before the season even started..for Christ's sake already...he doesn't even yell or raise his voices with the players! At this point any win is detramental to us real fans, and good for Scamoron! We need this scumb*g gone ASAP ! Look at what he's done to our beloved Dolphins!

What does yelling and raising your voicce have to do with coaching a team? Are those the qualifications these days?

What leg do you have to stand on critizing Cam for arrogant and outrageous predictions when in the same post you've already written Beck off as a bust? What have you seen that the rest of us haven't? I don't agree with all of the decisions made by the staff this season, but I'm excited to see what Beck looks like on the field. If he's a bust, he's a bust and we'll try again next season, but give the man a chance!

I think that Beck should get the final 8 games of the year. That way we know if we should be looking for a QB come April with our top 5 draft pick. Also, if this team gets to 0-8, lets see Allen at safety, Ginn starting and L. Booker activated.

hey j dizzle are u crazy! cleo lemon did not win the qb job from beck! jhon beck did way better then him in the preseason! if u want to compare stats in the preseason jhon beck blew away trent green and cleo lemon he should of been the starter in week 1! jhon beck just make them look retarted when it came too stats in the preseason! and don't say well he didn't play against the same guys! because he started in week 4 and basically started in week 3 against tampa! because i was there and he just bascially blew them away in the stats! beck had like 5 touchdowns to there 0! also he did way better in yards tds and completions also qb rating! so don't say he won the job because he didn't the only reason why beck is #3 is because he was a rookie just drafted this year and cam favored green and as far as lemon because he been in the league! so thank you very much get your stats right!

Becks, preseason QB rating was in the 70's

Lemons was in the 90's

Look it up. I would also prefer Beck at this point, but don't make claims without proper supporting information.

I don't care what you believe cause you're not even man enough to leave your name!!!!!

Now let me clear up my statement a bit!!!
1. Cam really is in over his head!!But me continuously bashing him isn't going to change that!!

2. What has change, a poster pointed out the performance we've been seeing from Ronnie, also our offensive line , hell the entire offense is greatly improved!!

3. Cam is a rookie head coach and maybe we should expect him to make mistakes, but without a good mentor at GM he is going to fail!!!

I'm not on the Support Cam wagon, but I'm just no longer bashing the guy!!! Who I am really hating right now is LAME Randy Muller if we look back since he's been here he hasn't done anything!! So you guys say Cam walk into this mess?!?!? Well guess what his best friend RANDY M. took a big part in creating this mess!!!!!

Get this into your heads, you freakin morons. Miami will NOT, I repeat NOT, be drafting a QB with their first pick next regardless of how Beck performs on the field or if he gets a chance to perform on the field. The only way this changes is if Beck suffers a career-ending injury this year.

So while it will be nice to see Beck take the field, it is impossible to make a prediction as to whether he will be a Manning or a Leaf (or somewhere in the middle) from the performance during 10 games or less. Oh, I know you morons will be calling him a bust if he comes out and produces Manning-like first year numbers but real football people know new QB's will have growing pains.

Beck has been running the scout team in practice until this week. Lemon has been getting 15% or so of the reps (until this week of course). Lemon is the choice for the next few weeks. When we come back from England and the bye week Beck should start. Yes green was brought in to be a mentor to Beck. For all the Cam bashers...we need to have some stability at the top before we will be any good. Give him a season or two.

Anonymous I think you're right. Regardless of how Beck performs Cam isn't going to draft another QB next year. If you look at when the chargers drafted P.Rivers, Cam and Marty where totally against it because they where all for D.Brees. Being that Cam has already stated that Beck IS the future he isn't going to undermine his own statment and give up on Beck. I think next years draft will be a defensive draft for us!!!

I have to say how good it is to see sense out of at least one of the bashers (j dizzle).

If it helps, I'm just like the rest of you in hoping to see Beck get a chance to shine soon. Just don't be surprised if, barring injury, it doesn't happen this week.

Pay attention and have patience. They are improving.

To the cretinous fool(s) criticizing Randy Mueller, here's some remedial help: This is Randy's FIRST year running the Dolphin front office. Saban resented him from the minute Mueller was hired (NOT by Saban, by the way) and Saban OVERRULED Mueller on everything for the year they were together. After Saban skulked out, Mueller was stuck using Saban's scouting system because it was too late to change things. Those changes are being made now. But even with Saban's leftover scouting parameters, it's possible that Mueller came up with a pretty decent draft class in '07. Time will tell on Beck, Satele, Ginn, Booker, Abe Wright, et al. Mueller deserves scrutiny on the Porter signing, and I attribute the Trent Green decision more to Cameron than Mueller. To the Porter apologists, we know the guy was hurt in pre-season, but that's no excuse for not learning the defense cold. Pittsburgh usually dumps their linebackers at the right time, so it seems already that Mueller guaranteed way too much money to the bellicose "J-Peasy." But Mr. Mueller had great success drafting and signing players for both Seattle and New Orleans, so he's earned at least two-to-three years to properly build a team left bereft of talent by Saban and Wannstedt/Spielman. Mueller CAN NOT be judged on the basis of his time as an indentured servant to the evil and incompetent Saban.

First off all - I join j dizzle leaving the bash cam campaign.
I really like what our Offense showed so far - I mean we do score points - aren't we? Did we score points last year - I think our D produced more points than our offense last year - just a quick guess.
And we scored points even with Green beeing less than good. You called Ronnie a bust for years now - the same way you call all the other rookies busts if they are not producing Pro Bowl apperances in their first two years - give me a break - other teams had to cut rookies after camp already - now thats what I call busts.

Beeing down to plan E on Defense what do you expect? Imagine last years D with this years O we really could think about playoffs. But not with so many injuries - the Pats and Colts would not win with half their starters out in this league.

What I really like about Cam is his positive attitude - but maybe you can distroy his love for the game and the Dolphins like you did with Saban.

Becks time wills come and if he is as nearly as good as our german beer called Becks he will be awesome :-) Just give him a few weeks where he will have 15% of the snaps with the first team, so he can get some chemistry going with the guys. He is just one injury away and if he goes down too - Booker will be no 3 and Ginn will be on the field finally - so maybe you like this option better.

Cheers

Man please!!! Muller hasn't done one thing to make this team better , nor is he going to!! New Orleans and Seattle where put together by the coaches not Muller!!! If he's the right guy why did he let our entire D line walk out the door?? Why did he allow Cam to trade away a pick for the concussion case?? Why didn't he have anyrthing to say about the Daunte saga?? Why did he let Cam have his way on Ginn when our D line is gone??Why did he garuntee $ 20million to Porter??

You say he's been overridden by Saban , I say BULL, he's the GM and if he has no power or say so what the hell is he here for???Wayne has got to value his input he just resigned the guy!!! Saban did have total control but if Randy saw mistakes being made he should have been reporting them to Wayne to intervene, but he didn't he just sat around and now is trying to say this is all Nick's/and Wanny's fault!!!! He's garbage and until he's gone Cam is going to always be in over his head!!! The best tool for a rookie head coach is his GM, because Cam has such a sorry GM he'll continue to fail until this changes!!!!

Man j dizzle. You make me want to take back what I said earlier.

They blew up the D-Line in the offseason because the whole thing was filled with players over 30 years old, and they are trying to bring younger talent in to replace the players who left.

I disagree with you about Mueller. He has proven he knows how to pick talent. You can pounce all over the Porter and Green trades if you want, but the season is less than 50% complete.

I do agree that up to this point, the Porter deal has been a huge bust, but imagine if he turns back into the Joey Porter everyone expected in week 7, 8 or 9? I mean, he is one of a multitude on this team that is learning an entirely new system, and that takes time.

Patience is still a virtue.

Go 'Fins!

Wow. I know we suck (THIS year). But I couldn't BELIEVE WTF our boy, Dan said on HBO's Inside The NFL. He said (upon talking about Vinny), If he came back to football, he would want to be a Patriot. Wow, I can't believe he said that. That blew me away. Did anybody see that? But if that's what our team is reduced to...to where our legends say if they came back, they wouldn't want to be anything but a Dolphin, we're screwed. Our franchise's "identy" is a joke. I know it's unlikely, but go Phins. Make "Tom" Brady look like "Marcia" Brady like we have at times in the past when we sucked. It's a reach, but on any given Sunday....whatever, who am I fooling. But we'll see. It's not Sunday at 4:0 yet. whatever.
