Live blogging on Buffalo game today

Bumped into Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga in the elevator as I was on the way to the press box this morning. He was fiddling with his pass into the stadium which was interesting to me because, you know, he's the owner of the team. And the stadium.

So I asked him, "You don't need that pass do you?"

"They won't let me in," Huizenga said.

But, but, but you own half of Miami Gardens.

"Maybe if we win a game they'll let me in," Huizenga said smiling.

That's the mood today as the Dolphins go for their first victory of the season. There is hope the Bills are a flawed team. There is hope the Dolphins will be breathing fire coming off a bye week. There is, simply, hope.

We'll see.

Anyway., here are the inactives for the game: Kerry Reed, Travares Tillman, Samkon Gado, Jereme Perry, Zach Thomas, Anthony Bryant, Derreck Robinson and Rob Ninkovich.

Lorenzo Booker is active and I've noticed he got some significant repetitions during the week of practice. So maybe he'll get some work today. Again, there is hope.

Before the game starts, have to offer one comment about the Shula this week. I thought that the vast majority of reporting, particularly ESPN, was irresponsible. If you read Shula's initial interview, at no time did he say "the Pats should have an asterix" and yet, that was the headline all week. I thought that it was disgusting. Now that I have gotten that off my chest, GO Phins!

Well, Scott, from everything I read the reporters said he "implied" it, not stated, which he pretty much did, and that's how I saw it reported, but, hey, who cares, really?

I bet you are, but let's face it, he's given me little to nothing to believe in. There's always going to be blind loyalists. The same kind that kept telling us to have patience with Wandstadt, etc. When (IF) he's good, he can come back, but with all the suffering we have to endure from the team, I don't want to endure the suffering of a rookie HC as well!

Good run by Chatman, but what's with the running out of bounds?

1:04 PM

I don't buy that though. I think that Ray Lucas could have a disasterous day and he'll play the whole game. That's just the trend I've seen

David Martin, Miami's second best TE behind Justin Peelle, catches a pass for three yards.

We all know Ted Ginn needs to run hard all the time, get yardage on returns, and as a receiver get open downfield. But what about Ted Ginn's family? What does Daddy Ginn need to do to help Miami win? What about Mama Ginn, and Sis and Bro?

Interesting that Buffalo came out THROWING the ball against the 31st ranked run defense. Inexplicable.

1:15 PM

Armando,

As accurate as Feely is, how much has he cost the Defense with piss-poor kickoffs.

Mare couldn't split the uprights at the end, but you could almost count on the other team having to start behind their 30 yard line instead of in front of it.

Dolphins came with a multiple blitz including a corner blitz and there was still no pressure on Losman. There also was no one open also, so that's good news.

Matt in NC, I understand what you're saying, but I think if given the choice, I'd still go with Feely. Wouldn't you?

Kickoff coverage could improve. And if the opponent gets great field position, the D could bail special teams out with the 3-and-out (like Buffalo's opening possesion).

1:19 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Armando,

Sure I would take the points, but I can't help but wonder if this has not adversely affected our Defense and contributed to its unforeseen collapse.

Hint: Would be a nice article for someone (wonder who) to compare Feely's kickoffs v. Mare's.

Loved the play calling on that series, it may have worked if we had lt and ginn's family blocking

1:36 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

If Lemon gives us the "best chance to win", why doesn't Cam have any faith in him? The play calling is extremely conservative. Clearly, Cam doesn't have faith that Lemon can get it done when we are backed up on our 10.

1:37 PM
Blogger Armando Salguero said...

Edwin Pope just asked me if Chatman is better than Ronnie Brown.

Here's my take: I think Ronnie is better because of his size and speed. he's got the build. But I think Chatman is more instinctive. he's the better football player, while Brown is the better athlete.

Your thoughts?

1:37 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ronnie's better but only slightly, I think some ealier mentioned that the running game next year could be great with both player in the stable.... Anyway I think Ronnie better sharing time

Anonymous Anonymous said...

wow.. then you also think we should trade ronnie and he is a bust for being the 2nd overall pick!!!

1:42 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Are you kidding me Armando? Joey Porter made a tackle?

Ronnie can be a great back, a 1200-or 1300-yard back. Chatman can be a good secondary running back, carry the ball eight or ten times a game so Ronnie doesn't have to carry the bulk of the load.

1:44 PM
Blogger Armando Salguero said...

That first down pass was meant for a deep throw to Ginn, but he is such a long strider that it takes him a long time to get going. Slower corners keep up because they take shorter steps. Interesting to me.

1:44 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Miami...... is..... f*cked over......

1:44 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Chatman has been pretty good, but Ronnie is better, he is stronger and faster. I agree that having them both next year would be ideal. It would be foolish to waste our upcoming very high pick on a RB.

1:44 PM
Blogger Armando Salguero said...

Good blocking by Derek Hagan on that third down play for 9 yards.

1:45 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

If what you mentioned is true Armando, then the recivers coach need to address the stride issue dont you think. He's way faster and 95% of the players on the field and it doesnt show.

By the way the recievers arent running the correct routes.......

1:47 PM

Lorenzo Booker was in on third down again. He obviously is being given third down opportunities as a pass catcher. On short third down plays, he's not in there, just on passing downs.

Lemon converts second consecutive third down -- this time by running for 10 yards. Ginn was open deep, tho.

Bills don't fear Lemon at all (with good reason). They have 9 guys "in the box" and are just making it tough for Jesse to run.. got to send Ginn deep next series to lossen them up. Need to punch this in for a TD!!
