Source: Williams OK to practice, will play

The much-anticipated meeting between Cam Cameron and Ricky Williams apparently went off without a hitch this morning and the running back has been told he can begin practicing and will be used in games this season.

Cameron told me today that Williams passed all his physicals and other tests.

Williams will not practice today. The session began this afternoon and he was watching from the player lounge. He will begin practicing on Monday. He is able to play starting the Nov. 26 game at Pittsburgh and the Dolphins apparently have plans to use him as early as then, but certainly in the season's final five games.

This is good news for the Dolphins because they will be able to evaluate him to determine if they want to keep Williams for 2008 or trade him in the offseason.

Wow, we're on a streak of good news and good decisions.

Give Cam credit for the way he handled this, not letting it be a distraction during the time the reinstatement was being decided. Next, we have to keep him if he is at least close to what he was before. The last thing Bill Belijerk wants is Ronnie and Rickie tearing up his defense.

Gotta play Williams to see what he has left. Gotta play Beck to see what he's got. It looks like Management is finally making the right decisions.
The remainder of the season could be very interesting. At lest something to look forward to and have an interest in watching the Dolphins again. Too bad the season is half over.

Well, here we go. Like Armando mentioned in a previous blog, I wonder what the conversation between Coach Cameron and Ricky was like. Apparently, it went well enough.

i think weve hit rock bottom when the best news of the season is our 26 year old 'rookie' will finally get the honor of losing his first game as a dolphin and our best running back is coming back to the team after almost 2 years of teaching yoga and listening to greatful dead records.... bravo wayne, youve done wonders with this once proud franchise.... at least youve kept the prices down at the stadium (ha.)

i think we all know how the conversation between ricky and cam went...

cam: hey its cam, how fast can you be ready to play?
ricky: cam? cam's not here man
cam: come on man, it's cam, your coach
ricky: cam's not here man

If nothing else, I'm really not too worried about 0-16 anymore. I think Beck's deep ball, combined w/ Ricky's ability and the somewhat improving defense, three wins might not be out of the question. Woo Hoo ;-)

How great would it be if Ricky can get on the field in Pittsburgh, filling in for Chatman and score a TD in front of National TV and blow a ring of smoke out his mouth with the cold air... I can't wait!

Give Ricky a break dude, he has a disease called social anxiety disorder it is the reason he has been having these problems his entire life. Grow up with all the pot smoking jokes. The NFL has finally gotten to the root of the problem and his helping him. Ricky has never been arrested or in trouble with the police. So give him a break and lets root for him to help us turn this thing around. I hope he gets a contract extension at the end of the year and Ricky can finish out his career in Miami.

If we get stupid and cut Ricky, he's a Patriot in 5 minutes. Then we can watch as he and all the other ex Dolphins, like Evans, Morris, Izzo, Welker who didn't have a home on our stellar squad beat the hell out of us. Play him. Build some type of value and trade him for any kind of pick to any team in the NFL that isn't in the AFC East. He's dangerous, flighty yes, but very dangerous. When's he on he's awesome. We should run him until he can barely breath every week and let as many teams, like the Raiders who take a chance on anyone and need a high quality back to take carries from the new QB, get as much new film on him as possible. We stink, let's rebuild and you do it with draft picks that you either use or trade for more draft picks. Play Ricky, Play Ricky, Play Ricky...

I would trade Ricky to any NFC team for a conditional 7th round pick 10 years from now in the 2018 draft to make sure NE doesn't get their grubby, cheating hands on him.

If this is truly the case, we could be in for a product that is actually watchable. Of course this is all contingent on Ricky keeping his end of the bargain and not lighting one up every now and then. If the dolphins(or NFL) keep up with mental illnesses and the issues they cause, ricky may get the help he needs while in the fins uniform.

I will tell you one thing. This offensive line is playing the best it has in years. If ricky is anywhere near the RB he was when he was with the dolphins previously, he will make ronnie brown's beginning of the season look like detroit's running game last week.

the only caveat to this whole endeavor is the possible disappearance of lorenzo booker once again.

Hey Guys...give this guy a break. It is posssible thathe has change. I don't know how the process works, but I'm sure he has been drug tested, probably many times, before the NFL gave him permission to come back. Everyone hated the guy when he last left, now mst are for him. To forgive is devine...maybe, just maybe, he won't be traded for a second time by Mueller. We need a new G.M...they guy never killed anyone....just shot himself in the foot, sort to speak

For all his personal problems I've always really like Ricky as a player. Not sure he still has anything left in the tank but in his prime he reminded at times of another ol' Texas alum.... big guy from Tyler.

The teams in dissarray anyway so I don't think either move will hurt them.

Awesome news, Arrrrmando!

I have always been a Ricky supporter and I'm glad I'll get to see #34 in aqua & orange once again. At this point, he's hardened my heart so much that if he get suspended again, I'll be like, "oh well!!" I'm almost expecting it, really. In the meantime, lets hope he can tear it up.

I applaud Cam Cameron for taking a chance and giving it a go with Ricky. We really have nothing to lose at this point and this might provide the positive energy needed to squeak out a win in the next few weeks.

All this being said, I'm not devaluing the importance of Chatman. I think Chatman has earned the starter spot and will keep it all season long. If I'm Chatman, I'm feeling good about having a Ricky Williams come in and spell me frequently. Having these two guys on a rotation and maybe on the field at the same time might be awesome.

I'm sure John Beck is happy too.

This is exactly the type of fresh air we need.

mark it down folks. this whole season has been a buildup to this.

Run Ricky Run! That used to be my catch phrase on Sunday afternoons a few years ago. Looks like I'll be saying again in the not so distant future. Hopefully against Pittsburgh. I dont necessarily think we should just showcase him for trade bait. I'd seriously think about next year as well. We dont know about Ronnie's status, besides the last time they were teammates, the Dolphins were running wild. Beck to Ginn, and Ricky and Jesse running. If only our defense could keep playing like they did against Buffalo.

All I want is this team to start winning. I don't care how, just win...I believe Ricky is a great runner and if he can stay healthy and clean he'll be able to help us. As far as next season....Lets just get through this one with at least a couple of wins and maybe some dignity. Beck is the man, he'll be awesome. He's got a rifle arm with great control. Cam finally woke up and is showing some signs of life.

I think Ricky is an amazing player. Amazingly selfish too, but an amazing player. Here's hoping that second chance #5 (he has failed 5 drug tests already) turns out a little better than the first 4.

I, personally, would use him just like he's used the team, and the fans, and ride him to a win (if even he can provide that burst. Ronnie was charging pretty hard, and it wasn't enough, remember?).

Then I would put the clamps on, put his hide on the bench, and let him see glimpses of time to showcase the talent for trade bait. I would also try to trade him to the NFC East so that we don't have to face him for 4 years, if ever. Puff, puff, pass...

Oh, and for you armchair GM's, I would put his prima donna behind on the pine to protect it from possible pain. I do still want to protect the teams investment.

Funny how there is a more positive air to this blog. It must be because you kids are getting your way. A shame in the making.

Did I mention HATERS are terrible fans? Can't find the bright side to anything, and most of them post using the same name. Must be a Frat thing.

Ricky hopefully still has something left in his tank...this guy had extraordinary potential....When he first came to Miami and the year he was the leading rusher, he was behind a mediocre O-Line....the following year when Wanny ran him to the ground he was behind a very terrible line and was still able to get 1500 yards that season....that line showed how terrible it was when Williams retired which exposed just how bad our O-line was....behind a good O-line, which is what we have here now, I think at full strentgh Williams will be a beast.

Ricky W,

You were my favorite Dolphin since Marino. I like to smoke the weed too, but I would definitely have to give it up if I made $500,000 plus per year. You are a mellow and intelligent person and pretty much everyone you meet in real life says you are very respectful and a good guy. You are also a great NFL running back and have proven it every time you are on the field,
Therefore it has been decided by the NFL you would be better off becoming very violent and should begin beating and pointing guns at people ASAP. According to the media and NFL mandated discipline this is much better behavior than the smoking a joint of the stanky stank in your own home.
The NFL policy is ridiculous, they should not even test for weed like the NBA does not test for weed last I heard. Cam can talk about character all he wants; Ricky has great character and is a silent leader. Ricky just has a weakness with the Devils Lettuce, that Sativa is hard to turn down sometimes. They probably have Ricky psyche treated right now with three different pills of Prozac derivatives everyday which has major side effects medically compared to the Sticky Icky and even under heavy meds he will be cleared for play by the NFL as long as their “affiliated” doctors say it is ok. Anyway Ricky, welcome back to the NFL again, I truly hope Cam is smart for a change and adds you back to the team as the starting running back ASAP. I am breaking out my old Ricky Jersey and will wear it with pride when he rushes for 250 yards his first game back. If Ricky is in shape he may go for Adrian Peterson’s new record of almost 300 yards rushing. Ricky was always like a John Deere tractor and pushed through the line hard. No one can argue that. I hope Beck kicks ass but if he sucks Cam may be out of there within 3 games and Capers made acting head coach. Don’t think it can’t happen. I do hope the Dolphins turn it around but the worst may not be over yet.

Look at it this way.. if we have three solid runners: Ricky, Ronnie, and Jesse this will be the best running team ever. Then even if Beck is good as we thought, then we are definitely a playoff team next year.. Beck does not have to be a Marino.

Unless you can get a high first day pick for him I would say keep Ricky. I don't know why all these idiots are saying trade him for a late round pick. The guy can be out of football for years and still come back and run the ball better than anyone else we have now. Also it is going to take Ronnie a couple of years with a torn acl before he will be able to run like he used to. Look how long it took Egerine James. Excuse my spelling!
